M&P 15T question

Does the flash suppressor screw off? It looks like it might. I don't see any pin welds. Also there is also a "key" that came with it. There is nothing in the instructions about what it's for?

I think that it probably does, but I wouldn't do it - it would more than likely make it a SBR. Why would you want to though?

As far as the key... I don't think I got one with mine.

It's only going to make it an SBR if the bbl itself is less than 16"?????

IIRC it only has be welded on if the bbl is less than legal length and the welded on compensator or flash hider is what makes it's legal length.

Part of the welded on compensator was to circumvent the AWB of '93, the removable comp was a "criteria" of assault weapon.

That looks like an A2 birdcage - should unscrew, as the barrel is 16" by itself according to S&W's site.

If the barrel is under 16" without the flash hider, then it must be pinned / welded.

More curious than anything else. What about this "key" This isn't my gun. It's my son's. After speaking with him, he said he's never measured the barrel but it's about a half inch longer than the 16" bushmaster barrel that has no suppressor when the uppers are placed side by side.

If they do it like every other maker, it will just screw off. The barrel itself is 16 inches so going under the legal length won't be an issue.
