LMT Defender or M&P15T

Assuming equal price and limited funds (so no rails for a while for the LMT) which one works out to be the better deal.

I understand how they rack and stack on the chart but are the differences worth a 300 dollar rail?

Just looking for the best deal overall...Do I go for a solid basic rifle and build up from there or do I get a lesser quality on that's already tricked out with the stuff I want

Discuss...

I have been happy with my M&P15A. LMT has a good reputation.

Not having the funds for your dream AR now. Getting a good base rifle, and building as funds permit. You may pay more in the long run but you will at least have a good rifle now just in case it hits the fan in 08.

If you like railed hand guards you should check out JP's modular hanguard. I have one on my AR-10, and like it. Plus it cost less than the typical rail hand guard.

The only thing keeping me away from the M&P15s is that the warranty is not lifetime, the LMT does, IIRC have a lifetime warranty.

LMT seems to be very highly spoken of.

The lifetime on the LMT is for a factory rifle, not a put together. Even as a mil guy I can save around 250 by getting the lower/upper vs getting the LEO deal from AR15sales.

I have handled both. The LMT is a better made weapon.

I am very happy with my M&P honestly. I guess you could get a better AR, but I can't guess as to what would be better about it.

For the same price I would get the LMT. Better fit & finish, tighter tolerances, proper stakes, etc.
