Is it ok to keep the bolt open while its in storage? will this put undue strain on the springs to leave it this way?

I'd just leave the bolt closed like it is supposed to be. Why would you want to keep it open?

I guess my question would be how are you keeping it open, mine has no bolt hold open feature, Chris (P95 carry) ran a thread about notching the safety to catch the bolt and hold it open, I think the intention was for field inspection/jams Etc.

Why do you want it open, that lends to dust build up or objects getting inside of the chamber. Just curious, if it's to easily verify the chamber is empty, several companies make a plastic piece that fits into the chamber holding the bolt back only 1/4" or so and has a tab that sticks out for visual verification of an empty chamber.

call me any name you want but I like to keep my guns locked when Im not home. I dont have a safe so a lock through the breech/magwell is how I plan to lock it.

If I pull the action open quick it closes, but if i open it slow it finds a catch and stays open. Its a Saiga--worked on by Krebs custom.

It would be in a nylon case so dust probably wont be much of a problem.

I would store it with bolt closed. I know what you're saying, if you do it just right, the bolt will stay to the rear, (done this with my SLR-95)but all it takes is a light tap and she'll go home. All it's doing in the open position is compressing your recoil or operating spring unnecessarily. If you cable lock this firearm, just ease the bolt closed on your cable would be my suggestion.

ok, Ill close it on the cable gently. I didnt know which way would cause the least stress over time.

I'd go with ram rod's suggestion.

AK's dont have a hold open feature, but they can be made to do so. If your intention is to cable lock it, put the cable through and gently put the bolt down.

No name-calling, but that's not a "feature" of your rifle. Most AKs will do that...and promptly slam shut on fingers in/near the ejection port at the earliest possible opportunity. Cable lock is GTG.
