Most AR makers build a reliable rifle. If you want to pay more for a higher end rifle you can , however how much more reliability is worth the cost? Consider for home defense , you probably will only fire 5-10 rounds if that.
I feel my Stag or Bushmaster rifles will be just fine for what I need it for.

Les Baer is probably akin to purchasing a Nighthawk Custom 1911 or Wilson Combat.
Les Baers AR15's are a rare breed in that they are semi custom rifles in a genre that boasts about things like Chrome molly and chrome lined barrels when all of Les Baers offerins are generally a stainless match grade fluted barrel with a rather speedy competition type rifling, what is referred to as "bench rest cut rifling" He also uses a 1/8 twist which a decent comprimise between being overstabilized and not stabilized enough, depending your ammunition selection. If you purchase a Les Baer AR15 your purchasing the high end Mercedes or BMW of the AR15 lineup. Everything else is just a Honda, maybe with some an Acura. As I described in another thread, I inherited a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special AR15 and with some minor modifications to the stock and grip and the additon of fancy optics, mounts and a light and BI-POD it's the envy of every AR15 shooter on the range. It comes with an 6000 series rail system, but this particular design has the side and bottom rails only towards the front of the rail system with some nice looking ports in the bottom for air cooling. If you want a full rails system Les Baer is willing to swap it out on the Thunder Ranch Special to a full rail system for just over $200. I haven't had this option done yet, but it's on the list since I would like to run a vertical foregrip on the bottom rail. As it sits, it's the prettiest rifle of all my AR's and it shoots with so much precision it's hard to even comprehend that any .223/5.56 is capable of holding such a small group out to 100 meters off the bench.

I don't have much first hand experience with AR's, nor do I yet own one, but from the factfinding that I've done I narrowed it down to CMMG, Noveske, and RRA.

For me, the lack of reliability is not worth the discount for a HD weapon, which is why I said Colt, Noveske, LMT. There are lots of good ARs out there and most of them will work just fine - but that's not good enough for betting my life on.
