Thanks for all the good info, picked up the Les Baer last night. Its the Police Special, not as costly as some of the other AR's they make. Put about fifty rounds though it at the farm, went bang every time.
Got a Eotech 512 HWS for it, is it allright where I mounted it, or should I take the handle off and put it there?
What about ammo, what do you recommend for plinking?

Nice buy, I'd ditch the carrying handle and mount your EOTech further back.

+1. The farther back it is the better your FOV through the sight. You can also get 1/3 co-witness with a BUIS if you buy a 1/4" riser - there's plenty made out there. Or you could BUIS w/riser by buying the rra dominator mount (money being no object)...

I love my S&W, a buddy I shoot with swears by Colts. I have a Armalite AR-10, nice shooter as well.

Yes, remove the carry handle and mount your EOtech back further on top of the reciever.

I would purchase a Troy or A.R.M.S rear flip up back up iron sight.

Since someone already mentioned "raising" the EOtech with a picitinny riser I would simply go to www.laruetactical and purchase their EOtech mount which is developed for just this type of raise to get 1/3 co witness with your front sight post.

Easy enough to just have the EOtech mounted to the mount and just use the throw lever to pop the unit off the reciever if you want to change out to a long range optic.

the mount for the EOtech is here: LaRue Tactical EOTech QD Mount LT-110

Nice rifle.

Rollmarks aren't the only thing that differentiates a DPMS from a Colt, LMT, and Noveske (honestly, I'd also rate ADS, CD Defense, and Sabre Defense quite highly as well).

"Milspec" is nothing more than a marketing ploy by the firearms manufacturers. The only battle rifles that are 100% "milspec" are the ones that wind up in the hands of our soldiers.

I do agree that the top manufactures though are Colt, LMT, and Noveske. I have seen the famous check list for all of the companies. I have read countless posts of how only the ABC's of the AR world are up to snuff and that everything else is just junk. I know that my DPMS is not up to the standards that many have. However for the average Joe like me that doesn't have a ton of money my DPMS is just fine. It is reliable and accurate. I am not fighting in the deserts of the Middle East nor the jungles of SE Asia. I am not a Navy SEAL, and I don't even think I am qualified to be a mall ninja. I am plinking at a target range in Temple, Georgia. In the unlikely event that I have to use it for defensive purposes it will work and put holes in whatever I aim at.

Hardly. The term became used as one, but still has very real meaning. If you want to be technical, yes, the only ARs that are truly "milspec" are those made by Colt and FN Hestal, because they meet exactly the TDP specs and have filled out the correct paperwork (read: they're the only ones contracted to make the rifles). That you don't feel you need a rifle that meets those specs doesn't mean the specs are simply a marketing sham.

Anyway, Bravo Company, Colt, LMT, and Noveske are the sure winners in the AR market. CD Defense and Sabre Defense one might argue are right up there with 'em, but CD Defense is still pretty new and Sabre Defense still commands a premium price for a rifle no better than the first four companies produce.

Thanks for the link, I ordered the mount and a flip up rear sight.
