I have put a few rounds through an SPR~ish rifle with this set-up:
Burris Riflescope XTR 3X-12X-50mm & LaRue Tactical LT104-30 QD Mount + LaRue Tactical J-Point / Dr. Optics / FastFire Attachment LT-137 + Docter Red Dot Sight 4th Gen 7 MOA Red-Dot Scopes 55711 FREE SHIPPING Compact Red Dot Scope I did not get to use the red dot, a guy over on the 200 yard lanes let me shoot it in exchange for some ammo. It was a tack-driver of the most jealousy inducing kind. It also looked like he had to shim his red dot up a bit in order to clear the front bell.

Leupold makes a scope, which I believe is 2X12 (although I'm gonna have to go looking to find it), which has a red dot option, so for CQB you set it to 2X with the dot on, and then for distance you turn off the dot and go to 12. As far as flashlights, you could side mount it, where you can still hit it with your thumb on the off hand, especially if using a vertical foregrip.

First thing that comes to mind are the short dots from Schmidt Bender, but those are anything but cheap.

I found a picture of what I have in mind as far as the CQB sighting option:

Nope. Long Range International offers TRAINING. I merely found that picture on their site, and posted a link to it here, to illustrate my idea. If you look at the pic, you'll notice a small red dot sight attached to the receiver at about a 45-degree angle. THAT's for CQB sighting. |

After looking at your link I now see what looks like a J-Point or Doctor. That's one way I guess, just not the most optimal in my opinion. What distances do you actually think you'll ever fire a carbine rifle in an urban semi permissive envirenment ? I'd think an Aimpoint would be just fine.

I am having this EXACT same dilemma right now! I have a Olympic Arms, Inc. - K3B-M4-A3-TC - M4 Tactical Carbine on layaway at the shop, and will pay it off very soon. I want something that can do distance, but also CQB. Let's keep this going, I would love to get some more ideas!

For optics, have you considered using only the EOTech 557 AR223 for both CQB & long range? It has a built-in bullet drop reticle specifically for the .223 round which has red dots for 0-300 meters, 400 meters, 500 meters, and 600 meters.
You can also mount a magnifier behind it if you need one. (side mounted controls for ease of use if using a magnifier) It's kind of pricey (MSRP $569) but you have one device that stays mounted and perfectly aligned and allows using the same solid cheek weld whether up close or out to distance. Less gadgets to come loose or otherwise spoil a shot and no extra mounts to buy, not to mention no extra clutter or weight mounted to your receiver. Also more streamlined and less stuff to snag on things when out in the field. You can view the reticle at the link I provided. They are durable with a combat proven reputation, parallax free, and the widest field of view of any red dot optic. (very important in the CQB scenario) I am currently saving my pennies for one to use on my AR.
