Rifles that break down/disassemble
I have a Sub-2000, made by Kel Tec, that folds in half so that it comes to about 12" in total length for traveling. Are there any other rifles that do this, specifically bolt action in a decent hunting/animal defense caliber? This is a terrific feature for long trips when you don't have a lot of room in your car.

The only modern production rifle I'm aware of available in a take down version is the Browning BLR.
The only other rifle I know of is the Winchester 1895 Limited Series in 405 Winchester. There may be others, but those are the only ones I know of. Hoss

I have 2 different .22s that break down and/or fold in 1/2...
Edit to add: Oh yeah, Ar's break in 1/2 pretty easy. I've got one of those too.

The Feather 9mm rifle breaks down
but may not have the shooting distance you are looking for. It is a unique break down defensive weopon. Uses modified uzi mags so 25rd and 50rd mags are easy to find and cheap. I would say its a cross between a mp5 and a mp3 grease gun. |

the sub2k barrel is 16" so your overall folded rifle is going to be about 17"
you can also go with the kel-tecs su series which fold but in honesty an ar-15 does the same thing if you want to break it in two. I love my sub2k, but recently got something with a little bit more range on it, for about 3" total length difference any ar with a colapsable stock with fit in a car rather well. and if thats still not an option for you you could look into the plr-16 which is a pistol (if you have a chl you can carry it without fear of local ordinances that prohibit longarms) as far as practicality well the plr 16 is a fun plinker, but thats about all its good for in my book,, as for your requirement regarding animal defence,, um no real luck there with the ar7, and I dont know of any bolt actions that fold in half, but there are plenty of single shot combo guns out there that have switch out barrells, 12ga./223 20 ga/223 12/.308 etc,, storage would be a little easier but they are all one shot breach fed weapons,, for animal defense I think your better off with a hefty revolver, that is accessable when you need it. for hunting it would be acceptable for moderate range shots. with versatility to switch back and forth if you needed to game birds in an emergency.. |

When broken down the M1 carbine will easily fit in most smaller suitcases. Not the most powerful on the block but it is a thought.

There are a few that will work for that....
Marlin Papoose ![]() Kel-Tec Sub2000 which you have, but pistol calbiers only ![]() Kel-Tec SU16 A, B or C model. Rifle round 5.56 lot more power. ![]() You've already seen the AR7. Most any rifle or shot gun you can add a folding stock to. I travel a TON, at least 2 weeks a month and a descreet carry case with a take down rifle just looks like a pool cue stick case, and they never raise an eyebrow... ![]()
