The state law would mention if the permit covers all weapons or just handguns.
It is a handgun, a 2 hand gun.

Dukalmighty....The movie was Eldorado with John Wayne and James Caan also.
Caan played "Mississippi" and carried that sawed off. I had wanted one ever since I saw it for the first time. Had a guy make me a hat just like his, also. NOT that I can't shoot a pistol!LOL
Thanks I'm getting old but at least I remembered the shotgun

I have always wondered that myself, actually. There are handguns with shotgun calibers that one can buy and carry, why not an AOW?

I know there is already a lot of paranoia about carrying larger than normal calibres of pistols due to the "What would the prosecutor/jury do if you have to use a 10mm/.454/.50 in self defence." I would think that using a class 3 weapon could make those fears come true if you had to use it. And what would a typical police officer think and do if you get pulled over concealing it?

If it has a rifled barrel it's a handgun. If it has a smooth barrel, it's an AOW. If you remove the rifling from a handgun, that's an AOW, and you need to pay the $200 making tax in order for it to be legal. Or you can have a class 2 manufacturer such as myself make one for you and your local NFA dealer can transfer it to you on a $5 transfer tax on a Form 4.

The Taurus Judge revolver is capable of firing both 45 Colt and .410 shotgun shells. The bore is rifled. If they made it with a smooth bore, it would be an AOW.

For now, pocket carry .38 PL +P or IWB .357 SIG will have to do.

Don't get me wrong, I've seen mad max, lot of good reasons to carry a shotgun. If this becomes the norm, I will need to reconsider. Even more scary, what if the shotgun was the standard BUG.

PS - Is the Taurus Judge (.410) legal for CC (in general, I know this could change state to state) & please school me, would it be more effective for SD then a 9mm?

That's a topic for another thread, although this threads main topic has been pretty much addressed, you will get more input by starting a thread of your own on that exact topic.

But to answer you're question at least in part, yes in general the Judge is legal as it's just a revolver, no special requirements are needed to own one other than the general requirements for one to buy a pistol in their home state.

Same here in Florida, regarding class 3 auto's. We are not allowed to carry them.

But I don't know about a Shotgun?

I would check your state regs.
