A small piece of history is mine.

I wanted one of these forever. After saving 6 months of VA disability checks to pay for it, I ordered it from the CMP. It is a service grade, kinda in the middle of the 5 grades they have. This one was born in 1954, has an Oct 54 barrel, which I presume is original to the serial number. The only non-matching part is the bolt, which is a HRA. The stock is also changed, a new CMP stock.

I also ordered a couple 400 round boxes of HXP ammo. Got 800 rounds of ammo made in 63, but I know it will fire fine as I have used some before. Ammo is also from the CMP. I read on the CMP forum that they have sold over 16 milliion rounds in the last quarter. If anyone is looking for these old beauties, get on the ball soon. Some day, probably too soon, it will be all gone.

Very nice addition to the family. I enjoy shooting mine. I need to get some more ammo. Do you have a link to CMP?

www.odcmp.org The 400 rounds in a 50 cal box totals $116. Not too bad for 400 rounds of good ammo.

Hooray! Good for you! That one gives an exceptionally nice appearance.

You should obtain good service from both rifle and ammo.

Just had my M1 out last Sunday afternoon, shooting in a local high power match. I was rusty and a bit "off" but had a fine ol' time with my favorite "serious" rifle.

Great rifles . I used to shoot one for CMP (it was DCM) competitions . Enjoy yours.

Absolutely! First introduced in 1936, it became standard issue for our armed forces through the Korean War. Here are a couple of links for you to delve a bit deeper:
