Well the AR15 project came to a screeching halt yesterday. The gun looks fantastic, but one slight problem.

You know that little detent you install to hold the buffer in place, if that makes any sense, and you screw the stock in just far enough to hold it in place without covering it?

Well I was under the impression that I had it all lined up, when suddenly *sproing*.

Well I looked for a while and gave up. It's not like I really needed it ready for immediate use, heck I don't even have ammunition for it yet. Isn't that sad?

Anyway I was just about to order the parts I needed (Can't get them locally) and thought about getting another lower parts kit, but that's kind of wasteful at this point. But I stumbled upon a neat little package I haven't seen provided by anyone else.

I thought that was a very clever product and package, and a good investment for me personally. So my Frankengun will have two Bushmaster parts in it... gets me up to three different manufacturers.

Later on I'll get one of these I think... I want to pack it up in a "head for the hills" setup.

Yes that little Detent can be a pain and it does fly pretty well..

Good move Euc - is when assembling/disassembling - drape a white sheet over yourself - any flying parts then don't go so far!!

Oh and too - eye protection is good when springs and *sproing* thingies are involved! I am sure you know that anyways.

Murphy's Law dicates that - lost springs only ever turn up - a few days after the replacment has arrived!

well, atleast you didn't lose an eye. Had all sorts of parts go missing during repair and retro fits. I have lost a hammer strut off my 10/22( found it after ordering a replacement), the main screw on my Kershaw folder(fell into a large box of shotgun hulls,I think), just for a few examples. Also saw my friends S&W guide rod sproing accross the room and stick in drywall during disassembly. Any more I wear safety glasses around gun projects.
Incidently, it will run without the detent in the lower.

And I thought it was only me...
I bought a 16 lbs. magnet on a long wood handle to drag the garage floor with. Its saved my sanity more than once.

Yeah I figured it would, but without the stock all snugged up I can't rely on the rear pin that holds the upper in place, and I don't want to tighten the stock until the buffer is in place. It's not mechanically necessary to have that in there just to run it, but there you go.

I'll get some up when it's complete, because it's only 95% assembled. Took several pictures to give a basic idea of how it came together. I'm doing a modestly detailed writeup for a friend and will put it on this forum too when it's ready.
