"The Bushmaster is known as a cheap gun"
I googled Bushmaster’s website (I don’t know why I didn’t just try bushmaster.com), and I noticed that the second site that comes up, is this gem of an article from a few years back. See if you can count the inaccuracies in this short article. Fun for the whole family.
http://archives.cnn.com/2002/US/Sout...fle/index.html Bushmaster .223: Accurate, inexpensive Thursday, October 24, 2002 Posted: 5:44 PM EDT (2144 GMT) (CNN) -- The Bushmaster .223 rifle is less popular among game hunters than its name suggests. But, like the venomous snake for which it is named, the high-powered rifle is deadly. The gun, according to Eric Haney, a retired U.S. Army sergeant major, is "for those who want the general feel of a military weapon." It's the semi-automatic version of the civilian model of the U.S. military M-16 manufactured by Colt. A Bushmaster weapon, according to a law enforcement source, was found inside the car of the sniper suspects arrested October 24. The weapon is sufficient for target shooting long distances, said Haney, who served with the U.S. Army's elite Delta Force in the 1970s and 1980s and was one of its founding members. "I would have been very surprised if they had not found a scope on that weapon," Haney said. With a scope, the shooter is able to find targets at night more easily, he said. The Bushmaster make is one of the less expensive models of the of the semi-automatic rifle, usually costing between $500 and $600, he said. "The Bushmaster is known as a cheap gun," Haney said. Nor is it hard to operate. "[It's easy to use] for the type of shooting we saw in the Washington area," Haney said. "Almost an 8-year-old child can be taught to do that in an hour, and hour-and-a-half."

$500-$600 ? yeah right, find me 1 for that much, I'll buy it.
Long range? Maybe with a competent shooter and no wind. High powered? Compared to what? A .22 LR? Scope at night, well maybe easier to see than irons if some light is avalible. Also most Bushmaster rifles are chambered in 5.56mm X 45. If this was in reguard to those DC (snipers) they were not snipers by any means. |

First thing I noticed before I even read the article was CNN. Why do I not have confidence in this story from the beginning?
How about the picture in the article. Unless the Bushy in the pic is pre '94 AWB, then I see some items on there that are a no-no for the '02 date of the article. I'll second that price comment from rocky, find me one for that cheap and I'll buy a dozen. They also fail to mention that a scope would double their "inexpensive" cost.

P.S. I figured out how to shoot it in about 30 seconds. Now I'm not saying I became proficient with it, but I figured out how to put in a cartridge and make it come out the muzzle.

I don't understand how Eric Haney could come up with such tripe.
Haney is THE REAL DEAL when it comes to a Special Forces resume'. This guy is one of the founding members of Delta Force. I guess that after the Army he doesn't have a way to make enough money except to go on CNN and state what he knows is a lie, to be the truth. What in the hell happened to his integrity? I don't get it.

The Bushys used to be the cheap AR-15 variants. When I bought my Colt Sporter Lightweight in 96 or 97 for $700 (NIB), my roomate picked up a Bushy with heavy barrel, carry case and a spare magazine for around $500 (NIB).
