I love shotguns for HD.

I have two that I use.
1. My Mossberg 500 12 gauge with the 18.5" barrel. Very reliable.
2. My 1930 Western Arms (Ithica) SXS with 28" barrels. Completely reliable.

When you see this pointing at you... you won't come down the hall towards the bedrooms.

We keep my wife's 20 gauge loaded up with #3 buck for home defense now.

Cruiser safe. full tube, empty chamber, hammer down.

I was going to show you my Remington 1100 18" tactical 2. It is a
12 ga 6+ 1.

You already have two very excellent shotguns. I sell all of them.

Keep what you have. If you are in the market for any other long gun or hand gun, I sell almost everything at very competitive prices even after any dealer transfer fees. Send me a PM.

on the jamming.....I've seen Remington pump shotguns jam and its pain in the rear, hence the reason the spoon should have the slot in it so you can use your pocket knife to work the shell out, I prefer the action on the Mossy
***disclaimer: this is not slamming Remington, I have an 870 as well as my Mossberg, and neither of them has experienced this issue, only seen other people's 870s do it, not saying a Mossy won't jam too
don't know if its just coincidence or if its only with the action on the 870...any others comment? experience?
My 870 jammed, when I initially purchased it. I bought used from a pawn shop, to save $$.

I found that the bolt face was hitting the back of the barrel and caused the edge to mushroom into the area that holds the rim of the shell. A little work with a knife, rat-tail diamond file and #600 emerycloth solved that problem (followed by a proper cleaning).

It's still a little tight, but much better. I've taken my time with the repair, I didn't want to over do it. Last time I had the 870 out, the last shell almost didn't eject. I worked on it a bit more. I saved the shell that jammed, just to be sure it ejected properly after my repairs. I think I'm good to go.

I think the 870 express uses kinda soft steel for the barrel. I'll just have to watch for this in the future.

thanks for that info, and sorry I hadn't responded sooner, been busy with work and behind on keeping up with my involved threads

interesting issue with the 870
we were told by our rangemaster that the express models are definitely built different than wingmaster & police models, and I'm referring to materials/internals not parkerizing etc
they won't allow us to use any shotgun other than 870 wingmaster or police models, I got my wingmaster at a gun show and bought a 18" barrel online, no issues so far

my Ithaca model 37 12ga jams after shooting a few shells, won't extract/eject, have to work back and forth forcefully to get it loose, not sure whats going on with it

I'm of the mindset that "if you only have a hammer in your toolbox, then every problem looks like a nail." A well thought out approach is a must for HD.
Personally, I keep one HG in each car, my carry weapon on, or on the nightstand w/ a flashlight at night and an AR for back-up on my side of the bed if things get messy. The wife gets the 12ga on her side. If it comes down to it, she gets behind the bed on her side w/ 12ga at the door, and I'm on my side w/ HG pointed at the door. AR is within hands reach if needed. A shotty is a must, but not an only...... you gotta have lots of tools in the toolbox!

Now since everyone else gotta post their HD toy....I'll do mine as well....my HD rounds of choice would be the Centurion multi defense buckshot..... one .65 ball, followed by 6 #1 buckshot......
