Sleeping Well

I sleep very well with this ol' gal leaning in the corner next to my bed at night!

If I get caught in my bedroom, there is no escape route.
There's five in the tube, 6 hanging on and a box of 10 on the night table (12ga). Also a 40S&W with 14 rounds and an extra mag at the ready. Everything else is in the safe, in my bedroom.

Now if I were to put a 'fridge in there too...
I'd be set!

Just make sure there is no-one behind the BG when you fire, if your using slugs.. I did a little testing last week with my 12ga,.. Used hollow point 1oz slug.. Using a big block of some sort of hardwood, and then had a railroad tie behind that.. Put a really nice BIG hole in the hardwood, and then went into the railroad tie far enough that I couldn't find it without cutting up the tie.. I guess buckshot only for HD,... IMO

Agreed. In addition to over-penetration, slugs give away the main advantage of the shotgun - the simultaneous delivery of multiple projectiles. No. 1 buckshot (.30 cal) seems to be the best mix of number of pellets (12-16), pellet size, and penetration - but can be hard to find. I ordered mine online.

Reference the chart below for a visual explanation of spread in relation to various factors...

Taking a precision shot with a shotgun as using shot would not, and is not, all that difficult when doing so at engagement ranges as measured in feet less than roughly twenty on the outside.
Turkey hunters have been proving this so for decades, all the while using relatively short barrels too.

Don't take my word for this though. That would be unwise.
Go grab your shotgun and hit the range. Bring 8" (adult sized COM) and 4" (adult sized face) paper plates along as targets and start close moving the target backward for distance to see how your own gun patterns at X, Y, and Z CQC ranges using A, B, and C ammunition. Memorize this so as to eliminate any future OMG can I make the shot guesswork.
Same as anyone would, or should, do with a rifle or handgun as related to aimed sighting and/or holdover with any given ammunition.

BTW for HD improved cylinder or cylinder is the barrel type/choke that is preferable as considering the functional ranges that and average home is in maximum wall to wall area as can be actually seen by you the shooter, not as measured on a blue print.

P.S. - Oh and use quality high brass shot shells for sake of continuity in training shot to shot and as related to mental and muscle memory toward real world potential struggle and skills usage.
very good advice, I recommend this to people that ask me too
I patterned my Mossy when I got it so I'd see/know how it worked
I'll be doing the same thing on Thursday since my new barrel for my 870 wingmaster arrives tomorrow for me to use on duty

also, at our recent firearms qualification, we were shown the new federal tactical 00 buck 9 pellet that we get issued
this stuff is really amazing, at 5 yards (not feet...yards) the hole is barely bigger than the wad, at 10 yards the spread is about 5"....very nice pattern on our head shot targets, even at 15 yards we can still take head shots with all pellets within the head on the target,
at 25 yards all pellets in the chest cavity
I got a case and half of the stuff

If loose gun laws are good for criminals, why do criminals support gun control?

They are attached to the heat shield that I got on gunbroker.com

The seller listed it as having 'ghost ring sights'.
I didn't know beans about that but knew I wanted some sights on the shotgun and I liked the heat shield simply for the "tacticool" factor. So it was a win-win.

Here is the thread about my building it, so-to-speak.

Maverick 88, 12 gauge, High Viz bead, Limb Eaze butt pad. I load with #4 buck low recoil ammo. Any more modification than that is foolish on a weapon meant to be put into action and done in about 90seconds. The Limb Eaze butt pad makes the recoil livable.

As far as needing an Assault Rifle for home defense, I measured my rooms and the furthest shot I could possibly need is 21 feet, more likely <15 feet! That is not rifle range, that is shotgun range. I sure would like to see some of these house you folks live in that you need an M-16 and good 200 yard dope to shoot across your living room! Man, your heating bills must be a bear! Learn to use the weapon that fits the situational environment.

BTW, I have been shooting field grade (Hunting) pump shotguns for over 54 years now and I have never seen one jam! I have seen them jam on skeet and trap courses, but those were usually autos and they were all closely machined fine tuned competition guns shooting less than field load power ammo.

On the pther hand, I have seen a whole passel of Semi-Auto military rifles jam without any good reason , although usually somehow ammo related. (exception to the rule was the AK-47 and unfortunately the BGs used that one!)

Bump in the night will continue to mean rack the slide on a 12 Gauge for this old Marine.
