However, I refuse to give up my "anti-assault" AR-15 style weapons, My "anti-assault" shotguns, or my "anti-assault" handguns! Because that is what they are for..... I'm NOT going to assault anyone, but I WILL use them to DEFEND myself..... there by making them "Anti" assault weapons......

What do you think the and the news and the anti gunners would say if we started calling them "anti-assault" weapons??
I think most of us completely agree, I would never be the first to draw a gun... However defense wise I would never want to be without one... Cops often say to the CCW "one less victim". Yet people are trying to ban it? Unedjucated blabber...

The UK has one of the highest violent crime rates, and guess what. Guns are illegal there not even cops can carry without getting proper temporary authority... Look at other country's with no gun ownership and the pattern repeats itself... People know that there are no guns so they don't have to worry about a homeowner with a shotgun so there's alot less consequence in their mind...

I like the defensive anti-assault weapon moniker of ibesarcasm. The "progressives" call illegal immigrants "undocumented workers" and so are their drug dealers "unlicensed pharmacists?" A defense lawyer told me that the DA has to work with facts, but he can work with emotion. Maybe it's time we work with emotion against the anti-gunners. Thank you, but I'll keep my lifesaving handguns and my mob defending anti-assault rifles. My battle rifle? No that's my hunting rifle. My sniper rifle? No that's just for long range target shooting.

Interesting. IMHO, The "concepts" of "Assault Rifle" & "Battle Rifle" are somewhat up to the individual.
In my personal case, I use the terms "Combat Rifle" & Tactical Rifle" depending on the "scenario"
1. Situations where the range is CQ or under 300 yd.s &/or the quarters are restrictive ( urban, brush etc.) = SOCOM16 (7.62 NATO )

The configuration pictured is with a 4x "scout scope" for longer ranges. I also have a "tac sight" for CQ. BUT I prefer the "peep" sights on the gun for both. The sling is a "giles"

The biggest neg., IMHO, of this gun is the ear shattering noise. ( I have a set of "electronic ears" that are carried on the gun. Hope I will have time to acquire them ) The up side is that with the muzzle break, the recovery is FAST & the recoil is sweet.

BTW, I use this gun for hunting also. ( 5 rnd mag & hand loaded rnd.s ( NATO spec w/ silver tip bullets )

2. Situations where longer range is called for = M14

Just my 2 cents worth.

Why is this even an argument? What's so hard about calling them all fighting rifles, or just rifles?

thanks for those who actually had real input on the OP's question.
I really learned alot.

Assault rifle and battle rifle are two seperate things with historical literature to prove so. Just because you think an AK which generally can't hit for the average user over 100-150 yards, is NOT a battle rifle. Yes, you can take it into battle, but it's not classified as a battle rifle. It's a short range rifle(100-300 yards) with an intermediate cartridge between a submachine gun and a machine gun, with a detachable mag and select fire.

Several people have cited and further explained the differences, this isn't a debate.
