Saiga .223
I have a Saiga, in '223 cal. I have read and heard from several sources that this rifle is safe to shoot with 5.56 ammo. There are various reasons given, including these two. First, they are made in a Russian AK factory and are in reality 5.56, but marked .223 for export to the USA. Secondly, they are designed for 7'62, but are rebarreled and have a different bolt for the .223 and are thus a much stronger rifle than say a Ruger Mini 14. Has anyone heard or been able to verify any of this?

I am pretty sure that it has the same barrel blank as the 7.62x39 caliber weapons, and they just drill a different hole. Making a stronger barrel setup there.
