Largest Upper on Stock lower AR-15
What is the largest upper (caliber) that I can add to my standard lower? I'm wondering what size I can get if I wanted to hunt with it? Also, would I need a new magazine for the newer caliber?

You did ask for the biggest, now, didn't you?
![]() However, to answer your question in the spirit it seems to have been asked: .50 Beowulf. If that is still too big, then .450 Bushmaster. Smaller yet? Probably look at the new .30 AR or 7.62x39. And all will need their own magazines.

The 6.5 Grendel could be a promising hunting round, although it's somewhat of a novelty.

Count me in for .50 Beowolf. JD's is nice, but it's not much of an AR anymore.
This site has some good info on it, and a clip from future weapons: http://www.50beowulf.com/ Here's where you can buy 'em: Umlaut Industries LLC : .50 Beowulf® Plus - Upper Assembly

.50 Beowulf needs to become a more common and easy to find round before I would invest in the AA upper. The Ultramag 50 from Safety harbor can be equipped with a 5 round mag and is a great bolt action upper using the .50 BMG. Any larger, and it would probably be illegal... and a 20mm ;)
