[QUOTE=sav;1357792] When I was buying mine, my instructor told me that Mossberg and Remington could be accidently overloaded and jammed, but Winchester 1300 and BPS couldn't. QUOTE]
Huh?

The Sept.2005 issue of Gun Tests ran a comparison between Mossberg, Remington, and Winchester. They successfully jammed the first two. Here is the link, but it requires a subscription:
Choosing A 12-Gauge Shotgun:<BR>Three Pump-Gun Winners To quote, "During our shooting tests, we noted above that we didn’t have any failures to function. However, when we were examining the controls, we were able to get two of the three guns to jam. It occurred as we were loading a full magazine into the Mossberg and Remington guns. To ensure we were getting all the rounds in we could, we kept stuffing shotshells into the loading ports. We were able to get six-and-three-quarters shells into the Remington, which in turn locked up the carrier assembly and wouldn’t allow the shell to eject nor the action to cycle. It took a screwdriver to pry out the lodged shell. Ditto that on the Mossberg. Five shells went in smoothly, but the sixth lodged in the magazine mouth, preventing the elevator from moving. We had to screw off the magazine cap, remove the barrel, and jiggle the action to free the shell. Admittedly, we know we’re not supposed to “overload” the magazine, but it wasn’t possible to jam the Winchester in this manner, which gave it a major edge in our evaluation. Winner: Winchester " (c)Gun-Tests, 2005 I am not sure about the BPS though, but that what I was told. |

Remington makes the 870 for leftys...They are a special order item but have been available for decades.

I can say that of all the shotguns in the U.S. military arsenal, the Mossberg 590 is the only shotgun that actually meets Mil. Spec. for combat shotgun.
It had the parts interchangeability, passed the drop test, 30,000 round performance spec and several other specs I can't remember at this time. While the military uses a lot of Rem 870's, the 590 was the only one which passed their own shotgun spec. US Navy and USMC use them. Which was one of the reasons I bought mine. As far as the BPS is concerned, I have no idea. I've never handled or shot one.
