Painting your shotgun
Ok, I'm considering breaking down my Mossy and painting it. I've considered Duracoat and someone here told me about using caliper paint. Also thought about engine paint.
Anyone here done this to your shotty and care to share? Tell about your experience, what you used, your process and please post pics! Thanks.

I've finished (and refinished) lots of firearms a bunch of different ways over the years. IMHO, it's best to use firearm-dedicated products. Cheap alternatives seldom provide satisfactory results. Is the current finish "shot" or are you just looking for a color change? Caliper & Engine paint are formulated primarily to resist high-heat because that's their environment. Gun finishes (Duracoat, etc.) are formulated to resist a different set of criteria (scratch, corrosion, Hoppe's No.9). Stick with a gun-related product. They still give your budget plenty of wiggle-room. Good Luck.

Refinished a Remington 870 with Gun Kote from Brownells. It is a bake on finish. I got very good results, the finish is very durable and an attractive matte black. Sorry, too computer ignorant for pics.

Yes, I refinished my Remington 870 for duck hunting purposes.
Process was easy: -disassemble, degrease/oil with paint thinner, lightly sand with 600 or 800 grit. -mask off parts you don't want painted. -I used Krylon ultra flat spray paints -Base coat in tan -used a variety of grasses as a mask and put second coat of green -Finer variety of grasses as a masl for top coat of black -hand painted reeds with three colors of Testers (flat model paint) -finish coat of flat acrylic seal. Reassemble, shoot ducks.

I haven't done a shotgun but I did my CZ 82 with Duracoat, It is a very simple way of doing a firearm. No need to bake, or bead blast. Just use a airbrush or a HVLP airbrush.

Thanks, I learned it from a friend. His shotgun looks so good, he could do it professionally.

In the process of Duracoating a 870 wingmaster I got from a pawn shop. Transforming it to a HD shotty. I'll let you know how it turns out.
