930 SPX gas system question
I only get to buy firearms a few times a year due to work, and happily one of those times is approaching. I've had my eye on the Mossberg 930 SPX for several months now, and it is among the top contenders for purchase while I'm home (unless I find a good deal on a Sig 220 SAO).
Pretty much aside from shooting a Benelli M1014 a couple of times and taking one apart once, I have no experience with autoloading shotguns. I've heard that some of them have reliability issues when you get into low brass/high brass shells, or with some lower powered shells. How does the Mossberg system do with a variety of shells? How reliable is the system? If I purchase this weapon it will certainly go into the stable of HD weapons (after a period of checking to make sure it all works of course). And I don't want to spend my money on something that I can't use for its intended purpose. So autoloading shotgun gurus and folks who own this shotty, any wisdom to share?

I cant answer you questions off the top of my head, but the shop we stopped at when you hung out with me has one on the shelf. I can look for you and report back tomorrow if you want.

If you aren't too busy during your shift I'd appreciate it SIXTO. I need another HD shotty like I need a hole in my head, with a 500, 870 and Coachgun, but that one just looks so cool. And I do want to get an autoloader. I know what they were going for in Columbus last time I was in Ohio was pretty reasonable, and have friends that should be getting me a report back on it.

I didnt have time to stop in the shop today, It was a very busy shift. 6 arrests a couple of crashes, one hit skip and a burglary, both solved. Thats another thread though...
Anyway, I did handle it a few days ago and I liked it. It seemed well built and balanced really nice. Thats tough to do with a short barreled long mag auto loader. I didnt tear it down and really look at it, but I will. I have to swing by the shop in the morning, I'll investigate it further and report back. I'll try to find one to shoot, I think I know a guy who owns one.

Hey, if you are actually busy during a shift for once, I completely understand. If ya gotta make a stop tomorrow anyways, thats cool, and I still appreciate you taking the time to do this. I know what a huge sacrifice it would be for you to have to try to find a neew kind of shotgun to shoot and learn about.

BuckeyeLCPL I have a 930 (not spx) with the same gas system. It has been 100% for me for about 3 years. It has eaten a bunch of high brass hunting loads and some low brass dove and quail stuff. No problems.

Thanks for the input timmy, out of curiosity, how much does it tend to reduce recoil, a noticeable amount over a similar pump action? Or about the same, not that I have an issue with shooting 12 gauges, but it could aid with quicker follow ups.
