Recent discussion on options for 12ga shotgun ammo: click.

In my Remington 870P SBS, I use #1 Buck (five rounds of 2-3/4", 16 pellets, 1250fps).

I use #1. Ayoob recommends this for the best combination of stopping power and safety in urban areas.

How we behave as gun owners is important. Posturing and threatening does not serve us well in the public eye.

Where did you find #1 buckshots?

None of my local shops carry #1, ever (so far as I have seen).

With the ammo shortage, even shotgun shells have been far harder to find, lately. Particularly #1, which isn't that common anyway.

Generally, I can most consistently find it available online, through CheaperThanDirt.com.

The best performing and most consistent round I've found in #1 for my 870P has been Winchester Super-X (#XB121), 2-3/4", #1 buck, 16 pellets, 1250fps. CheaperThanDirt has usually been out of these, the past ~9mos or so, though they have occasionally had others.

Right now, CTD has a few #1 options in stock, including: Remington #1, 2-3/4", 16 pellet, 1250fps; Winchester Super-X #1, 3", 24 pellet, 1040fps.

Yea I'd go for the #1 buck but find any either. Figured I'd go with something more available and get the most bang for my buck. Even though I have slugs at the ready, I like #00 buck and will stay away from the #4.

I got my #1 buck online - hard to find otherwise.

As far as slugs go - I don't see the point, unless for longer range. They give up the main advantages of the shotgun - simultaneous delivery of multiple projectiles, and the ability to more easily hit a moving target. Even at longer ranges, a rain of buckshot pellets is probably going to deter all but the most suicidal BGs.

I was just on the Remington website and they have a new HD round.
It's a combo of # 2 and #4 shot. It might be a good combo for penitration and spread. I have 00 buck in my 870 now but i'll probably buy some and check the pattern.

I too am a fan of #1. I have to go to my least favorite gun store to buy it but sometimes we all have to bite the bullet.

#1 may have it's advantages, but if you can't find any, those advantages are meaningless. 00 buck is readily available, so that is what is in my HD Mossberg.

I like #4 buskshot for HD. In a HD situation you are going to be close and penetration at this range should not be an issue for #4. Plus #4 patterns better in my shotguns.
