Looking at the close up picture, it looks to me as if the grenade launcher has a backing plate which has pushed up the back end of the rail. Maybe he had to do that to mount the grenade launcher.

Are you talking about the metal sloping from the slip ring area down to the 203? I've mounted 203's before on M-4s and M-16's, and never had to do mount it like that, our issued quad rail goes over the 203. I think he probably didn't get the upper all the way in the slip ring, and the recoil from firing a grenade caused it to come out.

tjsjr, as far as spending my own cash for gear. Pretty much everything I carry as a grunt can be bought on the civilian market, with few exceptions, not too much super top secret stuff. It's my honor to serve. And no one values my life more highly than myself, so its a good investment in my eyes. Plus things like the Pmags just go home with me and I use them in my AR.
