To clarify, I think any longgun is kind of long for many close quarters in a HD scenario, however, I would not recommend a pistol grip because I think they're much harder to sight, to align, etc. A
To be fair I've only shot a pistol grip shotgun once but I found it to be difficult to control the recoil and the aim was anything but precise. So to effectively use a longgun, I think you need a stock that gives you some kind of cheek weld; I belive a standard stock does that as well as most tactical replacement stocks. I do think putting on a shorter stock to get the right LOP is a good idea because whether we're talking HD or hunting, having the wrong LOP on a shotgun is one of the most common mistakes I see folks make that actually affects how well they can shoot a shotgun. I should also qualify my opinion that I've never shot a Knoxx stock and I do hear they help manage recoil but with a regular stock and a proper grip you can do pretty decent. Add some of the low recoil rounds available today, a good grip and the decent weight of a 12 ga that's been set up to the righ LOP and you have a good package. I'm also of the opinion that if you want a really soft shooter, get an auto and prove it the same way you would any semi auto weapon and then use it. I believe the Mossberg auto is interesting! |

B) Because every credible HD trainer, the FBI and police uses 00 buck and slugs C) Most importantly because I am not willing to risk the lives of my family on what "might" work. There is no acceptable risk when in comes to the well being of my family zip none. I want absolute assured and proven results from my HD weapons.

a) buckshot is for bucks
b) they don't have family in the line of fire c) anything you use is a risk that it might not work But seriously each has his reasons for what they use as a HD or carry load. |

My family might not be behind me in a violent home invasion. They may be in front of me behind a flimsy wall.
Not looking to start an argument, just providing my reasons.

if family is in the line of fire you've got problems and shouldn't be shooting anyway. Guys, let's get real, if you're going to pick loads that won't penetrate walls if you miss then you're going to be ineffective even if you connect. I think you should worry about over penetration in a human body and make sure you connect.
Also, in truly violent home invasion, I'd shoot an intruder even if my family was behind them and behind a wall if I felt it was the least risky option but who knows what we'll do!!! Plan on good penetration in a human body so you effectively and quickly stop a threat and then practice so you're more likely to hit what you'd like to and then pray it all never ever happens! |

Amen to that. A. I've seen a person that took birdshot to the chest, shoulder and arm at 15ft in a domestic violence situation and she was able to run out of the house and across the street to get help. Stood around till the EMT's came, and was out of the hospital in a week. B. Very True there aresome great urban tac slugs out there. C. Ditto Quote:
Having a plan will get you and your loved ones in the best position to defend yourselves. But what happens if you get suprized by a forceful entry? Then your handgun is going to be the quickest line of defense NOT your shotty.

My friends dad was shot in the back with Bird shot from 20-25 ft away.
He walked over to the guy and put him in his place. Now....why do you want to shoot someone with something that he can still come over and give you a piece of his mind when your done? I dont know about you guys but I dont shoot people for fun to piss them off, If I ever pull the trigger on another human being its because I want them dead. I wont use slugs, but #00 buck is what I keep in mine, and I have no worry about it not doing the job.
