8+1 2 3/4" Federal Vita-shok 00 buck in the tube, 6 more hanging off the sidesaddle, and 4 more in the speedfeed stock on my Mossberg 590. Oh, and an M-7 bayonet if they get that close.

I figure if I'm a situation where I needed the kind of range or penetration a slug would provide, I'd probably have my AK out to begin with.

And the recoil from slugs is generally a bit harsher, I prefer to keep it as consistent as possible, as there is one less thing to throw off my shooting in a high stress situation.

I like keeping slugs handy, but knowing exactly when I am going to use them, by only loading them when I need them.
Spot on mate.

I believe (and I haven't checked in a while) that I have 00 buck for like the first 4 rounds and 00 buck magnum for the last few. I figured if the 00 buck doesn't stop him after 4 rounds, maybe something with a bit more umpf.

I have slugs available, but buck is in the mag tube. I would only use slugs in a very extraordinary circumstance, so for the purpose of the poll, I considered the slugs irrelevant, and indicated buckshot. The very few times I have select-loaded with slugs have been at work, on police patrol.

I have recently mostly used the Remington 8-pellet 00 buck load marketed for law enforcement use. It is more available locally in quantity than the Federal Tactical buck, and from my 870's Vang-comped barrel, throws a more consistently
"squared" pattern, with no fliers, than the Federal, which tended to pattern in a more vertical stack, with one flier off to the upper right. To be clear, I got these patterns with the Federal several years ago, and today's Federal Tactical buck may not behave the same way. Moreover, every barrel is unique in how it patterns.

I use both, but don't mix. I keep #1 Buck loaded (7+1), and have a few slugs on the side.

My HD shottie with Winchester military issue 00 Buck.

I wonder how many pellets would stay within the ring?

Hornady TAP 00 Buck in my 870. Alternate between 00 & Slugs when camping in the backcountry.
