I open carry in my home town about a quarter of the time and no one bats and eye at it. A few months ago when I went into a local convenience store the lady ringing me up looked down at it several times and then asked me, "why do you carry a gun?" and I replied, "because it's easier than carrying a police officer." She had a good laugh, we chatted a little about open and concelaed carry laws and I told her, "when I'm in here, you don't have to worry about getting jacked up." Now we talk when I come in and it's all cool. She knows I'm a law abiding citizen carrying all the time whether its visable or not and she is comfortable with me. She asked me one time why I open carried sometimes since I have a CCP and I said, "if there's a guy waiting around the corner of the building looking for someone to jack up when they come out of the store, is he going to choose me if he sees it or pass me up for an easier target?" She said, "good point."

I woke up with an itch to go hiking this morning. Didn't have time to do so today but definitely will in the next couple of days.

I haven't been to any of the trails in a number of years, not since I've been carrying.

My question is: what are the OC laws/restrictions when it comes to hiking in the Phoenix area?

So i wasn't working but my boss told me of a man who has his permit to carry that she knows and sees in Target(i work at target) often accidentally had his shirt pulled over pistol(he normally carries concealed). There were also police officers in the store at the same time and someone told them that "there is a man with a gun" they approached him with guns drawn and apparently made a large scene out of the whole thing. I found it totally offensive. He was a white male in his 60's i say that because the target i work for is a very diverse place and he apparently is a very regular looking dude. the guy was unaware of his pistol showing and next thing he knows hes being held at gun point by the minneapolis police department in the middle of Target!! sad...

Driving thru SC, GA and Florida

Hi, I have what I hope is an easy question for ya'll.

I'm driving from SC to Florida where I will meet my husband and son.
I want to take my son's Sig Sauer to him.

I'll have it in a gun safe in the trunk of my car with the cartridges in a separate container, if necessary.

Is it legal for me to take the Sig to my son? Thoughts?

By the way, I'll be getting my CWP in the next couple of months. I've just started shooting and will also be getting my own weapon shortly.

Thanks for your anticipated response.

An OC that I did not like.

About a month ago, a contractor came to my home to fix the roof, and replace some water damaged carpet. He is in his 60's. I never met him until the work was actually being done. He came into my home, talked with my wife, and commented on my 505 scales sitting in my office. I use them for a paperweight these days.

My wife told me that he openly carried a pistol. No big deal. When I met him, he had it covered with a shirt worn over it, grunge style as it is known. No big deal. We were talking, and inevitably started to talk about reloading, and guns.

Then, he turned into an 11 yr old kid. He could not wait to pull his Glock 27 out and show it to me, show me the special SHERIFFS insignia that was on it BECAUSE he bought it from his son, a DEPUTY. No slant on the cops, but his guy was just blowing hot air about his connectons with them, as if it mattered to me.

I for one absolutely did not like for him to be pulling his gun from its holster and showing it like some damned kind of new toy. I was carrying my Glock 30 in my smartcarry, and he never had a clue.

My wife thought that he was just trying to let me know that he had a gun and could use it. If she was even remotely correct, then he is a real idiot. My children were not at home, or he'd have been sent down the road right away.

It is people like this that work against us much more than they ever help us with this cause.

Taco Bell+Open Carry=LEO's

Sorry its so long. I'm 18 so i don't have the option of CCW. I have OC in Wal-greens about 3 times, but I'm in and out so fast I don't consider them "real OC situations". So This is what i consider my first real open carry. I'm at taco bell with three of my friends. They all think it is cool that I have a firearm in case something bad goes down. (we live in a city that borders Detroit).

After we all ordered and finished eating. We had been sitting there for about 10 to 15 mins when I look over my shoulder and here comes 3 LEO's. One says "we need you to stand up," so i do "buddy you need to keep that concealed" i said i don't have a CCW I'm 18. He said "well your jacket was half covering it." i apologized and said i didn't know that it was covered when i sat down. "he said "can i see your id" i said sure i also had a pocket knife clipped on my pocket. Another LEO says "hold on i need to secure that knife." he took my knife and held it for the entire time.

I then got out my wallet and handed the first LEO my drivers license and Eagle Scout Card. He took 10 mins to go check my record(which i don't have one) in his squad card. The other two LEO's were standing there shooting the breeze with me about, hunting, guns, etc. One said "we aren't going to limit your 2ndAmend right just because people got nervous." Then another LEO shows up and was asking "what going on" and one LEO tells him. He then goes "okay no big deal" and leaves.

When the first LEO comes back he asks me why I'm carrying?' And I said Personal protection. He shakes his head and says " he doesn't advise me to do it, and that it is not smart because I'll get called on. Me and you know the laws and know you can do it but others don't." I said i didn't mind getting called on. I also apologized for holding them up on a "nervous" citizens call. I told him that i already spoke with the LEO in-charge at the police station a couple weeks back and he said I would be legal to do this.(which i knew already just wanted to see if they knew) So after trying to convince me it isn't a wise idea. They left and my friends and i carried on.

5mins later one of the Taco Bell employees comes out and asks "who called on you?" i said i don't know. I asked if they(employees) were concern with me being there and that I was carrying? They said no way, we don't care. So all ended well.
