Residual gun powder in barrel?

My normal cleaning procedure is to spray the barrel with CLR, let it sit for a few minutes, run a bore snake through it, spray more CLR and run the bore snake again. When I look at the barrel, it looks clean.

I took out some guns from the safe yesterday and inspected the barrel. They were all cleaned and not fired, but in looking at the barrel, it looks like there is still residual gun powder in the rifling of the barrel.

Anyone know what that is from?

Maybe a little bit too much egg nog too early in the morning. Sorry. It is Breakfree CLP.

Try Shooter's Choice. I had great results with it.

I've cleaned a couple of my .22LR gun barrels with CLP, didn't like it. They may look clean and shiny but CLP isn't the greatest for getting lead/copper out. While the gun is setting in the safe the CLP keeps working at the lead/copper in the barrel. After a while the lead will start to flake off the barrel making it look like there is powder residue in the barrel. I like the CLP and use it on all my guns but I stick with Hoppes #9 for use in the barrels.

What are you trying to clean? You shoot copper jacketed bullets? Hard cast lead? Swaged lead? Is it carbon your trying to remove?
Run a dry patch through it to try to identify what it might be.

There are some things that work great with any one of these. Most only work fair to good with a combination of them.
