Dirty magazines

I just took apart the magazine on my PT145 and it was pretty dirty. I was thinking that this may have cause a future jam due to the mechanism sticking from dirt and grit.

How many others take this step?

I took apart one of my Glock mags that doesn't spend much time in the gun. It wasn't bad, but at least I know now how much of a pain it is to take a Glock mag apart!

I clean my mags when I clean my gun. Hot soapy water, dry then oil.

If it was my glock mag I put in the dishwasher when I do the dishes. (This is a joke) Now LOL.

Just like sp2022 I clean mine every time I clean the gun. The only thing I dont do is use any oil on or in the mag. I have heard that if oil gets in the primer it can cause the bullet not to go bang when you need it to.

I had the same issue.

I ordered the GTUL and it works great!GTUL

I also immerse my field stripped Glock in Prolix lubricant/cleaner

Always wipe down the outside and clean the feedlips after every outing. Take it apart and clean the inside and spring every few hundred rounds.

I oil them because of the hot soapy water drys out the metal, light oil to prevent rust. I had bought a Sig mag had light surface rust. Need I say I was not happy. I called where I bought it from. They said it was not there fault and dont know what happened. Lub and oil is your freind rust is not.

Many years ago I was having major feed problems with one of my .40 cal. The guy in the stall next to me at the range said "how often do you clean your mags" I said huh! I took them home, took them apart and could not believe how much gunk was in there.

+1. Don't think a light coat will ruin the primer. I know the BOT isn't the end all be all, but evidence that this fear is greatly exaggerated.

Each manufacturer will have a recommendation for the cycle cleaning a magazine however a spring replacement is probably equally important if you are having trouble with a magazine.
