My air compressor has always been a normal part of my gun cleaning.

I also use it to unload my sidelock muzzleloaders.

Just a quick side note as well...put my 9 on like normal when the family went out today. I am used to a little extra CLP after cleaning, and having to wipe it down after carrying it the day I clean it. Not so today. It feels great, very crisp in the mechanism, and no seeping CLP.

Looks like my cleaning routine just got added to. :)

Or, you all could just buy a ultrasonic cleaner. LOL

Not that I have one either.

A cheaper fix is to buy one of those air canisters sold at office supply stores for cleaning the dust out of keyboards. I have one and it is absolutely perfect for guns. It even comes with an attachable 4''ish straw for those hard to reach places.

The hot water evaporates quickly when you pull the parts from the hot water and the gunk just melts away.

You do not have to worry about rusting if you get it dried right away, that only happens during slow oxidation.
I think most people have an instinctive fear of mixing water with guns or any kind of metal, but hot soapy water is an excellent firearm cleaner, especially black powder guns.
