Surface rust
I did some manual labor last week wearing my 1911 in a supertuck. It was next to my skin and got a little sweaty. I noticed a little bit of surface rust on the trigger guard and slide.
What is my best option for cleaning it and preventing it in the future? Thanks, tm |

I give mine the MiliTec 1 heat treatment. It leaves a thin coating on the gun that resists moisture, lubricates and protects your gun. Gunzilla is another good treatment.

You can buy prepackaged oil cloths...perfect solution.
Keeping a 'wife-beater' between you and the gun would help a lot, also. ![]()

Light oil and 0000 steel wool to clean it. Paste wax or Rig to protect it.

Hehehe, you should have seen my sig before I bought it in the pawn shop. A little is not how one would describe the rust. Typical cleaning and oiling should fix your problem.

Folks may be interested to know that FLITZ polish will remove surface rust from a factory Blued firearm without harming the hot blue.
