Well, rfurtkamp, I forgot to post the results of this attempt to get rid of all of the annoying slashes. It worked but it didn't. In the database, the slash was actually represented there as "/&#039" or "/&quot". I got rid of everything except the slash itself, but did somehow manage to change it to a back slash instead of a front slash. Attempts at writing an SQL statement that would take care of the "\" returned an invalid SQL statement.

Frustrated, I edited them all out of the threads by hand and corrected a couple of hundred by hand out of the posts. I gave up. So, I guess we are going to have to put up with the remaining ones. I will continue to straighten them out as I come across them....

What did you try to use? I bet it's a simple fix. Post it and I suspect it's probably just a problem with an escape character. :)

You're gonna kick yourself for this one. It's one escape character wrong. :)

UPDATE post SET `pagetext` = REPLACE(`pagetext`, " \'", " ' ")

Note the second \ - the first is read as an escape character in mysql.

That should solve your problem - if it doesn't, well, I'll try again.

I damned near dream in SQL these days.

Thumbs up

Bumper, Betty and all the testers: I apologize for not saying thanks sooner, so
thanks all for your efforts. Forum looks great.

BTW, does the new software block signatures? I noticed nobody is using them.

Just curious.

Thanks, Captain Crunch, I appreciate it. All of the beta testers did do a great job of testing the software, spending alot of man hours cheking things out and trying to break it. And Betty did an awesome job on the header graphic. Overall I am pretty satisfied with the way it turned out. There's only one nagging little problem and it is not really an operational one. I am learning alot about the backend of the software every day, but I have a lot to learn yet.

Signatures. No, I can see everyone's signatures, including yours. In your Control Panel there is a setting that controls that (there are alot more options here than in the old software). Yours was set to off so I turned it on in my control panel just now. You should be okay now

The simple one that I set up for myself worked, and still does, with no problem. And there looks to be a signature/quote at the bottom of your posts.
