How to Quote Only Part of a Prior Post

I looked in the FAQ and User CP and can not find the answer to what I know is a simple thing. I notice that many members quote only part of a prior post in their reply. I know how to quote the entir post, but how do you go about quoting only part? I have tried every thing I could think of, but to no avail. Thanks.

Ron

Quote the post, then highlight and delete unwanted portions.

The other way is to highlight and copy the part of the post you want to quote, then in your post click the quote icon at the top (it's the one that looks like the speaking balloon in the comic strips) and paste the text between the marks ] and [ that surround the words "QUOTE". This way does not show who the quote is from so you may want to put the user name with the quote.

Thanks, Rocky. That was what I was doing, but thought that maybe there was an easier way that I was somehow missing.

Ron, dr_cmg's way is probably faster for small quotes - and if you want to make sure the quote gets the poster ID - add his/her name thus ........ here curly braces for demo ....

It's probably overkill, but I also use leading dots and trailing dots to indicate partial quotes. It keeps context honest.

what about where some quotes have "originally posted by" and then the little blue thing to click bringing you to the original post. how do you do that?

I was not aware of any blue thing! Let's see what happens here.

Ah yes - forgot that ... well you'll only get that if you elect to go for the full quote using the quote button in that post. You can still of course remove parts you do not need.
