Combat:, or fighting, is purposeful violent conflict intended to establish dominance over the opposition.

The term "combat" typically refers to armed conflict between military forces in warfare, whereas the more general term "fighting" can refer to any violent conflict, including boxing and wrestling matches. Combat violence can be unilateral, whereas fighting implies at least a defensive reaction. However, the terms are often used synonymously.

Combat may take place under a certain set of rules or be unregulated. Examples of rules include the Geneva Conventions (covering the treatment of soldiers in war), medieval Chivalry (the code of many knightly orders including the Knights of the Round Table of Arthurian legend), and the Marquess of Queensberry rules (covering boxing).

Combat in warfare involves two or more opposing military organizations, usually fighting for nations at war (although guerrilla warfare and suppression of insurgencies can fall outside this definition). Warfare falls under the laws of war, which govern its purposes and conduct, and protect the rights of soldiers and non-combatants.

Combat may be armed (using weapons) or unarmed. Hand-to-hand (mêlée) combat is combat at very close range, touching the opponent with the body (striking, kicking, strangling, etc.) and/or with a mêlée weapon (knives, swords, batons, etc.), as opposed to firing or throwing a projectile.

Hand-to-hand combat can be further divided into three sections depending on the distance and positioning of the combatants:

* Stand-up fighting
* Clinch fighting
* Ground fighting

Open carry is our last remaining carry right in some states except Vermont and Alaska (since getting a permit means you're begging for a privilege). We need to be supporting open carry where it is still legal.
Combat doesn't really have anything to do with whether carry is open or concealed, but you're correct regarding it being open if you are IN combat. But those with concealed carry permits are not required to keep it concealed when you are actually engaged in a deadly situation. I understand that the combat in CombatCarry is confusing to some people, and to correct that we are about to undergo a name change to DefensiveCarry.com. But, we still will not include open carry as part of our focus, just as OpenCarry.org does not include concealed carry in their focus. I would highly recommend OpenCarry.org for those discussions.

I have to say that I never really thought about the politically-incorrect implications of the name "CombatCarry" before you just mentioned it, Bumper. That's probably because like most or all of us here, I don't think of negative implications of carrying a concealed handgun for "defensive combat." But I suppose there may be negative attention coming your way because of the name, and what it might mean to sheeple blissninnies who never think of life as a potential forum for a fight for survival.

I think that a change to "DefensiveCarry.com" is a wise and well-reasoned one. It can only serve to make this forum and our position that much more, well, defensible.

we're gonna change the domain name because some guy doesnt like it or feels it somehow offends an extreme minority of readers sense of semantics?

and i think Hotpoint refrigerators should really reconsider...

oh, and dont get me started on the NRA..... national RIFLE association!? oh, the horror.... please change the name so i can discuss my pistols....

{/sarcasm off}

You know not all combat situations are open affaires,
Hence camouflage uniforms to hide the soldiers.

Neeting to conceal artillery and tanks.
Paint schemes on fighter jets and ships.

On the cotrair, I think just about all combat is about
concealability.

Just my .02 worth.

Believe me, I would not go to the trouble for the sake of political correctness, DefensiveCarry.com just makes more sense and is more descriptive about what we are about, but all that's got it's own thread somewhere.

i think all and all 'defensive carry' seems like, after a year, we're going to be like "remember when this used to be called combat carry?" some will react "no". as i think CC rolls off the tongue better, i admit, it's probably more appropriate and might even increase the members... oh... might need an even bigger server then too . wow, what a thread jump.

Although I support the right to open carry I choose not to. I don't want to be hassled by the sheep or LEOs that have been called to the local McDonalds because "a man has a gun." I also don't want to to give the criminal element any edge that they might use against me. I just want to look like the rest of sheep and blend in. A sheepdog in sheep's clothing if you will!

It is not unusual at all for us here.....this site specializes in concealed carrying...and not open carry. Note the banner: CONCEALED WEAPONS CARRY, FIREARMS, EDGED WEAPONS, TACTICAL EQUIPMENT, TRAINING, LAW ENFORCEMENT & MILITARY

Open carry is not referenced in the banner.
Well that is completely contradicted by the PICTURE at the top where TWO people have their guns in the OPEN.

Um, not to mention that one of the pictures shows a woman with a gun that isn't even concealable. Yea, but you "specialize" in concealed huh. Riiiiiight.

go away trollboy . If its that imporntant to you start your own " Open carry " board . You have done nothing i can see except come in here with juvenile disruptions. So far you havent even IMHO articulated a valid reason for this thread ( " i want it, i want it ,i want it , and cant have it so its everyone elses fault attitude doesnt count ) much less a board section for a practice that is at best impractical in 99% of the country and at worst outright dangerous .
