Forum Rules state in reference to religion / politics "we do not focus on these subjects in our discussions". It should state rather that these subjects "will not be tolerated, even in matters tangent to main subjects", as is inevitable in any public forum.

It seems as though these subjects are at times selectively tolerated. Religion is OK as long as we are bashing Islam, telling religious jokes or someone has died. Politics is tolerated as long as we are bashing Hillary and as long as it is not a Liberal prespective.

Consistency is the key to order. Just my opinion.
The mere mention of religion or politics here is not forbidden, as long as it fits in with our focus. Does a thread asking how many ministers are members here break our rules? Absolutely not. I think it's important for our members to know who carry and the logic behind it. Politics is similar to religion and, as Hot Guns said, it is, obviously very much tied to our focus. As long as it remains so, it's allowed. We have been very consistent in our application of the rules. It very well be that you are not logically able to put yourself in the moderator's role and see where a thread crossed the line, but rarely are these issues dealt with by one moderator. We discuss some of this stuff ad nauseum from in the back room.

Regarding us allowing the bashing of liberals, Hillary, or Islamic, I will just say if you honestly believe that, you must be scanning threads to get just enough subject matter that you can make a post. I do all those things, daily, by the way. We just don't do it here on the forum. And, if you care to do the research, you will find out that I have post reminders periodically, in this particular forum.

I will end this by simply saying, I know exactly where the line is, what I have trouble with is getting it across to those that are hell bent on discussing religion and politics. If you care to go ahead and post about politics and religion to try and find exactly where that line is, be my guest. I'll let you know one way or another when you cross it....

I don't understand why, there are many, many religious forums that will welcome discussion 24/7 on matters of faith - yet close your thread down if you were to go into a long rant about guns, or anything else off topic and disruptive. This place is just like that, we talk about the things in the picture at the top of the screen, sometimes we talk about other stuff, if that other stuff is on the small list of subjects that require disproportional amounts of the mods time then it gets watched hawkishly and closed at first infraction.

If there aren't already any sites specifically for christian gun owners (I know there are Jewish ones) then maybe that is your calling... I'm sure there are a lot of people with the same need.

Warrior Talk has some forums with an explicitly Christian bent. That may be a good place for someone who's looking for further discussion along these lines.

I agree. Consistency is the key and every one should be held to the same standards. Sometimes it dosen't seem to be working. I have read several comments that fall in the gray area but they do not offend me. I agree that the mods have a lot of material to scan through and the line has to be drawn somewhere. It will all work out in the end. I joined this forum due to it had discussions on subjects I was interested in and I was able to ask what some consider dumb questions without being flamed.

If you would like to help there is a triangle with a ! in it under everyone's name. If there is a post that seems in violation of the ToS here please click the triangle. It will give you a dialog box where you can type in a message. These are automatically sent to the moderator's area for review.

We try to review everything, but we miss things. So everyone can help. Also sometimes things will run for a bit until we get a consensus on what we will do with a thread or post. We typically only act unilaterally with spam and blatant violations. Normally a note is posted in the moderator's area and the thread/post is discussed. This helps minimize/remove any personal bias from decisions.
