Flaming, Religion, Politics and you.

There are rules on this forum, we all agreed to follow them when we signed up, maybe not everyone read them but they still apply.

I'm fine with those rules, I have been around on the internet long enough to know that certain subjects are better left alone, unless of course the forum is specifically for that subject - then that forum is best avoided IMO.

There are a lot of new people here, that is great - we can all learn from each other. But it has been pointed out a few times recently that standards are slipping, Bumper had a thread very recently about language, there has been other incidents.

I'm saying this as I care, I don't want the forum to degenerate into one of those 'other places'. I also don't want casual readers to think we are argumentative blowhards.

We can disagree, but let's do it with intelligence and grace. It has been said before but stands reiteration:
Think first, post second, use the 'preview' function.

Lastly, if you think you can win a flamewar you are mistaken, the winner is always he who gets the last word, and that will always be the Mod who closes the thread.

Rules are good and necessary, but the enforcement of those rules should be consistently applied.

Forum Rules state in reference to religion / politics "we do not focus on these subjects in our discussions". It should state rather that these subjects "will not be tolerated, even in matters tangent to main subjects", as is inevitable in any public forum.

It seems as though these subjects are at times selectively tolerated. Religion is OK as long as we are bashing Islam, telling religious jokes or someone has died. Politics is tolerated as long as we are bashing Hillary and as long as it is not a Liberal prespective.

Consistency is the key to order. Just my opinion.

God forbid that we talk about Politics or Religion and actually learn something.

Personally, I think that some of the subjects get shut down a bit early because some of the Mods know little of either...but thats just me.

Other than that, its still a great forum.

HG, those who want to ''learn something'' can go to other boards for those subjects - the deal is, not here!

No - it is simply because of where those type threads usually head - which can be towards flames and tears!! (which Bumper does not want).

It really is that simple

True enough - give ya that!! That is what makes our lives so hard sometimes - trying to find the balance point! Usually means trying to spot when something either blatent up front or - something more subtle - but which gathers momentum until outa hand.

It's not an easy call Bob - I can assure you .. trouble is sometimes it's downright impossible to please everyone!
