Yes, I've experienced the problem for a long time now. It's beyond unbearable to me now since I was forced to replace my computer with a new one that will ONLY run Vista! The file of Smilies insists in opening in a new tab and frequently will totally seize up IE. Thus I have to kill the process and lose all my "unread" tab windows that I had open at the time (since they are then set as "read" next time I open up DC). [Under XP (which won't run on my new machine), it used to open a new IE browser window, so I could kill that one and move on. Somehow IE operates differently in Vista.]

yeah, my parent's computer has firefox and mine doesn't (yet) and it's the same result, so there's something there. until this post i thought is was just my crappy Compaq and stopped using the [more] smilies, but i guess i'm not alone. firefox really is the best way to go though and i'm working on getting a new computer with all the perks. don't let that stop those who want to find the problem. i'm really curious now.

I, too, have had this problem since becoming a member. It still makes my IE go crazy! Glad to learn that mine isn't the only computer with the issue.
