I, too, would love the ability to find local shooters and DC members. we have a fairly active group in the Twin Cities and would like to get people to cross polinate as it were :-)

Well, I'd say that the Gunshine State is well represented...

I'm aware of that and that's what I'm trying to do with TRP.

Best for now is just re folks who have added their names to Member's Meeting Place ... but of course many have not been there or posted.

A state by state picture would certainly most useful.

0.02 - I know very little re the Googlemaps deal - never explored it ----- how useful is it?

I've found google maps to server no purpose other than to gaze at.

I saw it on another forum, not firearms related.
It is an application of googlemaps that vBulletin supports whereby members can either add their map co-ordinates or home address (minus street name and number - for example I would only put Nashville, TN) to the data and the map shows 'pins' for all the contributors. When you move your cursor over a member's pin, mine for example in Nashville, TN, a small window opens with my name '0.02'.
It's neat, you get to see clusters of users and the odd ones out there on their own. Very illustrative.
Not sure it would be as well implemented here as people are cautious about personal information around guns and rightly so.

When I get back from vacation I will look into the addon, if it is available for vBulletin. One thing I am doubtful of is that vBulletin supports it. They have historically supported nothing unless it came directly from them and I haven't heard anything about this from their website or support forums....
