The principle sounds useful, superficially but I am not at all sure it'd consolidate us, rather I could see it fragmenting things. Just MHO.

Oh, I don't know. Having a post futzed with by P95, then fooled with by Tangle, then worked over by Bumper, or even ultimately closed, is almost a rating system of its own, yeah? Leastwise, I felt rated in the few instances that occurred.

I have seen this tried several places and it either destroyed the site or ran off most of the good members. I fully agree that some of the posters leave something to be desired - I have had to back track sometimes to see how the thread started.

I can see that happening too, I never thought of it that way. Maybe if it were kept anonymous that would help? If someone gave me a point, I would know why, but not who and if someone already gave me a point for a post, then I can get no more for that post.

BTW, none of you all are getting any points from me.

To add ....... Michael - that IMO is the only rating system we need have - altho I'd hardly call it ''rating"

Sounds like the downfall of packing.org. Thanks anyway. I enjoy all the posts, even if I don't agree with you, and I'm sure there are post that I make that you don't agree with. Please don't change.

Definately one of the things that killed PDO, of course there was also no management of the sight after it was instituted. The owner decided that he didn't have time to devote to the site anymore so they instituted the rating system as an attempt at self moderation to allow the owner to pretty much throw it to the wolves and hope the members would be able to keep it going. It might be possible to make it work, but the real question is, what benefit would it give the site? Other than giving what amounts as a pat on the back to those that make good posts and a slap on the wrist to those who don't.

I tend to agree, while we wouldn't have total chaos due to the higher level of moderation here, the system is in place (along with active moderators) at one of the other forums I frequent, and while it does give a pat on the back for helpful posts, it also gives an avenue for personal attacks as the rating system works both ways.

Then you have people complaining that they don't have any "Points" and such, not to mention that every new user will post a thread on "How does the point system work?"

Yeah, I'm in the no category. Some people start worrying too much about points I guess. We all ready have "Star Envy" now you want to add a point system?

I don't think it's needed, I see enough pats on the back in the open forum. That's one of the things I love about this place, we have great members that post good info.

Or.....

Maybe Sixto just needs a hug?
