Use better key words in thread titles to aid search

Hi all,

It seems many of us have difficulty finding old threads that we are looking to read over again or for reference. I think part of the problem is that people name there threads with generic firearm terms or somewhat cute titles that don't mean anything.

You have no hope of searching for it if you name a thread:

"Homeowner shoots burglar with Glock"

We should make an effort to use unique specific titles to things to aid in our searching and enhance clarity. Locations: i.e. Joe Horn in Pasadena, TX or unique words are always helpful...

cheers

...

Actually, your particular example of searching for "Homeowner shoots burglar with Glock" found only one thread: this one. Nicely, it avoided the extraneous ones with "Glock" in every third post. A bit wider search is cast with "burglar Glock", which finds 11 threads back to 2005.

No matter how you slice it, the feature can be tailored to cast a wide or narrow scan, in just the subject headers or the body of posts. As with most other sites based on the vBulletin software, it works the way it works 'cause that's about the best that exists right now. Still, as good as it is, it often requires multiple searches to seek out particular threads one might recall previously reading. No real way around that.

So. Where does that leave us? Most folks won't change their word usage, much. Which means that the caliber of the feature and a person's given facility with its usage is going to dictate ease of finding something, really. It is what it is.
