Yep, super-duper slow. I think I one-armed man with no fingers could produce a handgun and empty the magazine before the page was fully loaded after clicking it's corresponding icon in my "favorites" folder...

Actually, I need to get back to Mark about the upgrade quotes. He was supposed to have had them together late last week. The problem is, indeed, the amount of traffic we are experiencing. Looking at the stats, it actually sped up a bit early last week.

We also have an upgrade coming in a week or so that has some minor performance improvements. For that I will have to take the forum down for a few hours late at night....

I just received the upgrade options from Mark at Tranquil Host (one of the best hosts out there) and I gave the "go-ahead" for a significant upgrade to our horsepower. We are currently on a Dual-Core Opteron server, 1.8GHz with 2GB of RAM. Our bottleneck has been with the CPU.

We will be upgrading to a new 2.0GHz Quad-core Xeon server, which are much more efficient than older ones at the same clock-rate. Since we're still doing good on disk space, Mark will put our existing drives in the new server allowing us to get back up and running with an estimated downtime of less than an hour.

Total cost is under $400/year so I think we are good on the budget without our members making extra donations, although I do VERY MUCH appreciate the offers. All of you and the sponsors have helped us keep enough funds in the bank to cover these kinds of upgrades to the forum. If you really want to help, buy something for yourself through one of our sponsors and tell them you saw their banner here....

You guys are great!

And I thought it was just the string getting loose at Time Warner. Thanks for the upgrade; the site is running faster now.

Sorry guys, it's running better because traffic has dropped off peak; we haven't upgraded yet. I'm currently waiting to see when Mark can get it done. How quick we get upgraded depends on whether he has a server in stock right now.

I'll let everyone know as quick as I find out but it may be at a moment's notice. I told him to do it the first opportunity he gets.

Question S....L....O....W........

Some times when I long in here early in the day the server fly's but sometimes like tonight I will click a topic and wait close to a minute before anything happens, N sometimes I triple click to get the page to load... Every other site I visit is fine.
So anyone else notice or have this happen to them?
