Post counts?

I know I have posted atleast 7 times today, but my post count still shows 555. It has not changed all day.

Do we have some kind of secret software that determines if your posts are worthy of counting??

Edited: It changed with this post.... to 556

There are a total of six posts today, including the one above. Four were in "Off Topic" which does not count towards post count and the two that did. It should have incremented twice on the six posts....

IMO, we're going down the wrong path if we're worried about post counts. I've been on way too many forums/sites where this appears to be the case or right of passage. If that ever appears to be the case here, I'll start to become disenchanted with it.

...and thats why I suggested we move from the post count system to some sort of rating system that was based on the helpfulness of your posts. But, I went down in flames on that, and it probably wasnt such a good idea looking back on it.

The post counts have been the way they are, with the exception of removing increments for the Member Buy, Sell, Trade and Off Topic forums for 5 years. It would be impossible to sway me to a "merit based" system, which is exactly what packing.org did that caused them to hit bottom. Cliques start forming to sway ratings and the crapola begins in a big way. Honestly, I would simply close this forum down before I would let that happen.

Were the counts not used by the script, and by staff (specifically me) I could remove them completely. But then we would also need to remove the titles and ranks and remove the ability of members to access any of that information in the Member List. All for what purpose? None....

Perhaps you could sell post count for a dollar a whack. It would fund the sight, and render count meaningless.

Please pardon my ignorance but...What is the benefit of having a high post count?

Some seem to think it gives them more "clout".
