Denied!

Apparently they installed a new internet filter at work. I tried to log in here today, got a message that this site contained "Adult content" or "Pornography".

I can still get into a couple of other gun forums and the motorcycle forums I belong to though.

It took me a minute to realize that wasn't the Woodstock logo - very clever.

Did it give any indication as to which filtering software they're using? Most come with a system that allows you to "dispute" ratings -- one of my clients' managed firewalls was blocking all of Google for "Spyware" and a quick filling out of the form fixed all of that.

The company I retired from had anything gun related blocked. You can never be too careful of those "gun nuts" you know!

It's probably because of all the gun porn being posted on here.

Me too - but I get denied daily (still working) for "weapons content." I heard it was something to do with the companies legal liability if a worker goes nuts and shoots people. Go figure...............

There isn't much I can get at work any more IF I had the chance. I get filtered out of news videos, anything to do with 'games', 'firearms', adult content, etc...... About all I can do is get e-mail and vehicle forums, and E-Bay. It is what it is I reckon.

Ask them what their plan to protect employees is... since they are making themselves responsible for their welfare.

MP45Man probably thought he was making a joke, but it is quite likely the use of the word "porn" in relation to photos of firearms is what the filter is catching. Most are poorly designed and even more poorly administered. The out of the box setup for most is to block just about everything and most are designed for a specific type of application.

The college I work for got a new filter several years ago and despite of numerous attempts to get the power that be to understand that an enterprise filter and one designed for an academic environment were different they got the enterprise version. That meant that things like career counseling websites were blocked because companies don't want their employees trying to find jobs - colleges want their student to find jobs. Business sites like stock trading and the Wall Street Journal were blocked because businesses don't want their workers trading stock on company time - it is tough teaching business administration classes that have online assignments to business sites when they are blocked. You get the picture. By the time the setup was changed and adjusted to where it should have been to begin with almost 3 months had gone by, many work arounds for classes had been done, and the cost was about twice what the original estimate was and significantly more than the cost of the academic filtering software.

Just for fun you might like to know that when the major upgrade came along about 15 months later the consultant who had recommended and installed the software came over to handle the upgrade and to make sure everything went smoothly. He didn't back up the configuration files before doing the upgrade so that we ended up with an out of the box set up again. Now 14 months after the upgrade some of the adjustments that had been made to the original system are still not in place on the new one.

I used to manage a network group that had responsibility for the filter and it was always a battle to get the "out of the box" version corrected. Even so, once we made corrections, the subscription that keeps them up to date would usually screw things up all over again. I understand that they are a necessity in many cases, but they are also a nightmare....
