it is pretty sad when you open your in box and 99% of them are form DC posts but hey its better than junk mail

Even I don't get E-mail notification. You can turn that option off.
Click on User CP (top left of your forum page)
Then click on Edit Options.
Scroll down and change your notifications in the drop down menu.

Select ~ No email notification.

All I can say is that you get what you ask for with notifications. On a slow forum it's not too bad. Here, you're going to get a mailbox full. Like others have said before, turn it all off from the Control Panel. I receive only PM and donation emails....

I like getting the notifications, it's easier to follow threads that way without having to open each one every time I sign on. Once I've read enough I just click the "delete subscription" link in the email - it's the second link in the notification email.
