Would you buy a display model??

Hi Everybody!

I returned a defective new Bersa back to the dealer this weekend, and he had no new-in-box to exchange with me, but he did give me the option of exchanging for the display model.

I turned him down - mainly with the thought that the weapon had been dry-fired a countless number of times.

I was wondering (although probably & hopefully a rare circumstance) what you all felt about purchasing the display model.

Am I being paranoid, or would a majority of you purchase??

Thanks for your opinions!!!

lol answered on your other post , but for them not following it , the answer is

Heck yea , but at a discount . Its a new gun with maby a scratch or two that i can get cheaper , same warrenty ect .. why wouldnt i buy it .

It depends on the gun .I buy used all the time . I just picked up an Italian made 92f Beretta with leather grips I like it alot. This gun has some ware to it but after I cleaned and oiled it . It looks better now and i'll take it out tommarro to the range and shoot it. It all depends another mans trash is another mans treasure .If you can get a replacement good if not you could always try the display .merlin45kout

I would buy one if a modern center fire that was safe to dry fire.

Most good dealers will allow a serious potential to test a trigger pull on a display model but, usually do not like a customer to just stand there & repeated pull triggers on display guns. It is ignorant to do that.
I always ask for permission first to find out if it's OK to test a trigger. It's proper to ask before testing the trigger on any firearm out on display.
I limit it to a quick trigger test. It's not my firearm...yet.

I would buy a display at a lower price, have bought used, but I WOULD NOT accept it as exchange on a new defective on. I would expect a new one.

Ask him if he will give you 100.00 (or whatever depending on the price of the new one) back if you take the display model since it should be priced lower.

I think you have said Eric you have your money back - so in a sense we start with a clean sheet.

Yes indeed - a display gun could save you a bunch and if you get the whole deal, box, guarantee etc - then it is IMO well worthy of consideration.

Check it is clean and not actually been fired significantly - and then check all over, accepting that minor cosmetic marks may be there.

You could come out of this better off.

I actually bought the "display model" when I purchased my Sig GSR. There was nothing cosmetically wrong with it, and the trigger was better than the other two the dealer had on hand (maybe because it had been dry fired alot?).

Most gun shops the "display" model is the model that you are buying. The few that I've been to that had display models sold them to reg. customers at great prices (yes, I was a regular).

So, yes, if with a discount then I would buy the display model.

I have bought a display model before. To me it all is gonna depend how bad he wants to sell or how bad I wanna buy....

Not a problem, I would buy a display model if it was discounted. I think your Bersa problem is pretty unusual. I hear they are very reliable guns.
