Thanks, OD. Please keep us advised!

If not for Jeff Cooper and Elmer Keith, I have no idea what kind of person I'd be right now. Those two really influenced my life.

Col. Jeff Cooper very ill

The ol' gent who packed a 1911 around the house...

Quote by the Col.
"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized. The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles. —Jeff Cooper, The Art of the Rifle"

Those of you with high-up connections, see if you can put in a good word.

He's one of my heroes, I'm wishing him well. Check out the link below to read some of his stuff:

He hasn't written a column since May...I was beginning to wonder what was going on.

May God bless him.

I copy/paste the following from the 10-8 forum

Quote:
Randy,
Concur. Lindy called me this evening to say that Jeff is now resting at home in a bed provided by the hospital. Initial reports from the "battlefield" were covered by the "fog of war." Hopefully, I won't screw up the facts as I understand them.

There was no heart attack. The doctors did not want to perform the operation because his heart is too stressed from a partially collapsed lung, as well as the pressure from his chest/rib cage on his lungs and heart all related to small fractures in his vertebrae. Bottomline is that the pain from his back had become unbearable to the point of him not being able to focus on anything but that. The family had hoped that the kyphoplasty operation would return the pain to the level of what it was 3-4 months ago, realizing that it would not eliminate it. They are now just trying to make him as comfortable as possible.

Lindy stated that if friends were in the area that he would appreciate short visits to help keep mentally engaged. They are hanging a flat screen TV on the wall in his room so he can watch movies as well.

Anyway, his death is not imminent, but like for all of us inevitable. It is what we do with our lives before then that matters. LtCol John Dean Cooper, USMC doesn't need to fret over whether he made a difference or whether he mattered.

Dean Caputo and I had a conversation a while back that, if possible, Jeff would prefer to pass on to Valhalla by being dropped into the middle of a Taliban strong hold with a Steyer Scout and several Colt Gunsite pistols and lots of ammo. Am sure he would bring great credit upon himself, the Marine Corps, and the United States Naval Service.

Anyway, like Randy said until that time lets remain positive and keep the Cooper Family in our prayers.

S/F
Freddie

Thx Miggy - well my pessimism was perhaps misplaced - tho I realize his age is not going to help any.

Very sad he has to deal with severe pain - I hope very much that can be controlled better and he is of course, in many folk's thoughts.
