Redhawks with scopes make some fine hunting handguns. Mine is a stainless .41mag that I have been using for over 20 years to harvest Texas game up to and including a Trophy Spotted Fallow Deer. Handloads topped with the Hornady XTP gets the job done.

Most of you mentioned the 44 with longer barrels. I got a a Taurus Tracker with a 4" barrel for backpacking/camping emergencies. Would 300 or 330 grain be my best choice? Btw, my run ins with local "inhabitants" could mean a black bear.

A .44 Contender barrel, ya say... I hope it isnt a hexigon barrel. The worse handgun recoil I ever felt was from a 10" hexigon Contender.
Ive used my 14" .30-30 barrel on my G2 Contender, it has a Millit reflex sight mounted on it. I never had a shot at a buck while hunting with it.
