Question about Springfield Armory?
Went to the local gun shop this weekend just to brouse. One of the guns I looked at was a Springfield 1911 GI. I liked the price and the Springfield name.
I was supprised to see engraved on the bottom of the dust cover Made In Brazil. I know the XDs are made in Croatia, I have an XD .45. I always thought the 1911s were made in USA by Springfield. Maybe some of their 1911s are but apparently not the GI model. I guess my question is does Springfield Armory actually manufacture any of their own guns, or do they just contract with outside manufacturers? |

I own two GIs, and yes they're assembled in Brazil, but they still have the quality that Springfield is known for.

Springfield gets their frames from Imbel in Brazil. I have two Springers, one a US manufacture (stainless) and one Imbel (blue). From what I understand, they (Springfield) makes or buys their stainless frames in the U.S., but their blued frames they out-sourced to Imbel.
They are both at or above Springfields standards. The XD isn't the first gun that they have out-sourced to Croatia either. Their M6 Scout was made there as well. There may be others, but I am not aware of them. |
