Kids hide as mom, friend slain.

http://www.startribune.com/467/story/694902.html

Two observations about this tragic story. One, the "friend" apparently had taught the kids what to do if the X boyfriend showed up which may have saved their lives. They had an escape plan. That was very good. Two, and this is the most tragic IMHO, there was not a defensive gun in the home. Their entire safety was based on a restraining order and the hopes that LE would show up in time if needed.

This has been the topic of much conversation here in MN as you can imagine. I've heard comments on how Teri Lee did everything she could have, and how the system failed. The system failed, imagine that! Why do people think that most "government systems" will do anything but fail? Beats me! So IMHO Teri did not do everything she and her friend could have for their safety. They should have been carrying a gun under the circustances.

That would have been the only option that might have saved them. Not a guarentee, but certainly a lot better than waiting for the government to protect you.

They had plenty of time to arm themselves. Just another case of sheep waiting for the wolf to get them.

When will folks realize - ''response time'' - ''response time'' - even if that was 2 minutes, that'd be too long to have prevented the tragedy.

Yeah right - time for another <sigh> - shucks - is it really only us lot who see things as they really are? Short of having had special dispensation for a 24 hour armed police presence - ''the system'' was impotent.

How many wake-up calls do some folks need, in order to at least stand a chance of defending themselves - in this case way too late for that.

The system is based on failure. Let us hope and pray that the children are taken care of.

The other sad thing that never seems to get mentioned is that the EX was only wounded.

It may be wrong to say this, but if you fire on the police and com away wounded....... That also seems like a system failure. And additionally that means that there is a very high probability that I'll be paying to support the "perp" (through my taxes) for the rest of one of our lives. Money that could do a lot more good in other places!

Hmmm...... Early morning rant! Now back to your regular programming!

Tragic. At least she would have had a fighting chance if she had had a gun.
