Glock 'em Down, I think you're wrong.

Just because you have a 15 round magazine doesn't mean you have to use all of them. If you feel so strongly about counting rounds, then you should have no problem restricting yourself, and you will end up having a few extra rounds available in case of an emergency. If for some reason you think having a lot of rounds in will make you fire more (it shouldn't, because you count them), then simply put less in.

Have you ever been in a shooting, by the way?

Sorry, there is absolutely no argument for having a restricted magazine over a normal magazine when they have the same dimensions and reliability.

Hello .....................

I thought we might get back on topic!!!

Are you buying more mags - or not? This is what the thread is about, NOT justifications for their useage!

To get back on topic.
Personally, I'm buying, storing, and scooping up as many hi caps as I can get, "just in case" I can't get any more after 08.
Whether it's an investment, or a "just in case" senerio. You'll always have em, even if you wanna share your good fortune with your friends.

I stockpiled all the hi-cap mags that I needed after they became legal again. I am now stockpiling used brass, primers, bullets and powder in preparation.

I just got 6 used AK magazines from Sportsman's Guide ..$50 and they're all in good shape. Some show some wear, but two look like they have never even been inserted into the magazine well. Not a bad price, all things considered.

Also, you can get 12 for $80

Not all my shooting is predicated on preparing for self-defense. When I'm at the range I'll shoot just as fast as I can with at least mag just for the heck of it. Besides with some accounts about how ineffective a 9 can be against a drugged up bad guy I want as much ammo as I can throw down range to stop the threat.

Why should we to be hamstrung against any threat because some Easterner thinks that they know more about a firearm than those of us that have actually have handled them? According to the Federalist Papers and the Constitution there would be no reason that we should be limited.

And yes I'm buying more mags here and there

As far as low (or no) capacity, I disagree however, just based on the types of situations a person can run into.......... totally on his/her own. Multiple bad guys, police impersonators, bad guys pretending to be injured, broke down, lost, .....some BG's don't announce themselves. You may end up having to shoot at more than one person.

Carjackers, sucker punchers, gangs, and bad guys high on crack or muscle bound from years of weight lifting in prison... or just plain psychotic. Do you think they are just going to fall down and give up from a single bullet?

I want to have the ammunition on me to engage multiple threats I may encounter in the same day! The movie 'Deliverance' comes to mind. I end up in some pretty remote area's doing my job, and going on the occasional hike. Wild dogs run in packs, and Bears can take a few hits before they go down.

Having the extra ammo does not in any way endanger my life. On the contrary, having extra only ensures my safety.

Bravado and Machismo aside, i'm not Billy Jack, and am not so Rambo that every shot fired will hit perfectly in the ocular cavity or heart. Adreniline, stress, fear, and multiple bad guys can mess up your aim.

Some bad guys use rifles....... texas sniper? If a armed bad guy is at a far range and you can't run.... are you still going to rely on a 7 shot 1911 to keep his head down while you lead yourself and family to safety? (Civillians here, remember)

Also, the thought of engaging with multiple opponents scares the crud out of me so having hi-cap is the way to go. I'm not able to take down 3 bad guys with a 5 shot revolver ........ i'd rather have 18 rounds. People have that nasty habbit of taking cover, running around, shooting back, wearing bullet proof vests, or just plain taking multiple hits without going down when they are shot at.

Oh, and even though I'm good at the range, and have had perfect scores ...every blue moon I get a flier. Maybe i'm the only one.

I usually have my wife, and teenager in tow and if the wife has to use my pistol who knows how many rounds it will take! (Sorry hun!)

Read about the Miami Shootout, then you realize there are bad guys out there who arm themselves with 30 round mags and mini-14's. I want the most edge allowable to protect my family and my own hide. In my state, I can't drive around with a AR-15 in my trunk.

I'm just a construction worker, I don't have to sooth my ego and carry a 5 shot to prove how manly I am either. If I was i'd strap a sword to my back and take on armed ruffians like the 'Highlander'. (I'm not saying that anyone here is ego maniacal, I'm just refering to the talk at the range or gunshop where guys brag of amazing feats)---( or fish tales?)

There are pro's......... and there are joe's.

I will take heed from this thread and buy some extra hi-caps due to the political situation.

AGAIN, I mean no disrespect to those with the skills to pull off what they can. I'm just saying I need the extra ammo, and it doesn't hurt my feelings at all if someone else does not need it.

In my carhart and wranglers, with my gray hair, and coke bottle glasses i'm just not intimidating enough to scare the bad guys away.

As a civie, My only back-up is myself and of course that is if I cannot for some reason run, hide, talk my way out, or call the calvary in.

When I go hunting I bring extra ammo. When fishing I bring extra hooks, and bait. When I go to the casino, I bring an extra $20. When I go 4 wheeling I bring 2 spare tires. When I drill a hole, extra bits... when hammering a nail I grab a few. If I need two batteries, I buy a 4 pack.

Since when is having extra a bad thing?

Well said. This is one of the main reasons that more is better, 'cause in the heat of a situation it's darned unlikely that 6rds is gonna cut it. To say nothing of getting a jam due to a wonky magazine or bad round. Ain't nothin' for certain, in this game of life and death. That's why. Doesn't matter what I'm carrying, since in such situations it may well not be enough.

Something to think about, indeed.

I've got a number of extra mags for my primary self-defense handguns (1911s) in both 7 and 8-round varieties.

While I never had a problem getting 30-round mags for the AR, I tend to keep an eye out for a good deal. I picked up 3 more last month at the gun show. I've considered getting one of those Beta C 100-round double-drum mags, but just haven't been able to justify it.

I do need to pick up a few more 20-round mags for the .308 AR.

I don't think I've ever heard a post-action discussion where the comment was, "Dang! I just had too much ammo!"

I recently purchased a 15 round mag for my Ruger P95DC, one disadvantage is, I go through a box of ammo 33% faster then with my 10 round mag.

An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.
A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone.
