Midwayusa.com for all your reloading needs. Also heard good stuff from Natchez... and I dont have the link here.

But do check for local sellers to save on hazmat fees if you can.

And it was said before... buy in bulk to save more!

I love to reload....it does take a while to amortize the price of the equipment.

Last question any good links to reload supplies, ie primers ect.
Can you guys recomend a good clean burning powder.
Agreed on Midway ........ but do note - if you get primers or powders on line then Hazmat cost of $20 will be a big cost increase to add to shipping - unless you buy real big quantities.

I have a place that sells near wholesale about an hour's drive away and a trip there is well worthwhile now and again - if expensive! Check out your area with other shooters if you get the chance.

Clean burning powders ..... I think Tightgroup is pretty clean and Bullseye too for light loads is handy - 231 is OK too IIRC. But if cast bullets lube'd with Alox then some smoke is generated from that.

IMO Vitavhuori powders are the cleanest of all but - mega pricey unfortunately.

Midway, Natchez, even Cabellas had good deals on bulk bullets (and cheap freight!)

Try to buy powder & primers locally to avoid the hazmat fees.

Clean powders... Um I don't know what to tell you there. I have 3lbs of 231 to burn, Not really clean, but very accurate and soft recoil in the .45ACP. Blue dot is a little cleaner - I love that in .357sig and .380ACP.

Vitavouri is really clean but I have only run it in .44Mag and cant comment on 9 / 40 / 45.

Im kindof partial to AA #5 myself.

Its great for mild to medium target loads in most of the pistiols. Its clean, lowflash and it meters well.

Yup, reloading for my .45's means I shoot more for my dollars. I've never bought any brass and have several thousand of 'em from scavenging.

Settled on Laser Cast from Oregon Trail and 231 powder. Shooting cast lead is not as clean because of the bullet lube but I clean my guns each range trip so no big deal. Cast hard lead runs about half the cost of fmj in .45. Just don't shoot it in a Glock!

Cleanest burning powder seems to be Vitvouri but it runs a little more money for the powder.

The big return, besides stretching a dollar, can be the ability for fine tuning loads to your preferences do a little accuracy tweeking and generally enjoy tinkering around with things, as long as you stay within the safety rules of course!

To save money I buy most of my supplies at local gun shows. Works out cheaper because of the Hazmat fees. Only thing I can't get there are the Laser Cast bullets but there's no fee for them. We have two reloading suppliers who keep each other in check through competition at the shows around here!

How fast you recoup your investment really depends on how much you shoot. I go through about 10-12K of .45ACP a year alone which costs me about $985 or so to load.

So I’ve probably paid for my equipment in 6 months.

I usually go in with some of the guys I shoot with when it comes to buying components. HAZMAT fees suck, but split 3 ways aren’t all that bad and are cheaper than local purchase. Also, a lot of the commercial casting outfits will offer discounts on bulk orders, so we usually order 5-10K at a time. The USPS flat rate really helps and you can ship around 2250 of 200 SWCs for around $8.

I used to cast my own pistol bullets, but I just can’t keep up and still have time for anything else. Casting and lube/sizing 1200-1500 bullets a month is a PITA, so I’d rather write a check. The only bullets I cast myself now are my match bullets for my BPCRs.

The newer 231 does burn clean, but you have to keep in close to max loads. For me it’s not a problem because I’m trying to maintain my power factor for IDPA anyway.
