A few years ago our backyard neighbor's grandson was in their backyard shooting squirrels with a pellet rifle. My wife called the PD and they came and stopped him & let them (the family) know it was against city ordnance to do that.
Later one of them came to me asking what was going on - what was the problem about the kid shooting squirrels.
My response was that I didn't want any chance of any of my family losing an eye from one of his shots either mis aimed or bouncing off a hard tree knot or anything. I said if he wants to shot squirrels he needs to go in the woods - away from other people.
He accepted my answer and left.
Later I heard the G'maw wasn't happy about it but - oh well. That's part of living in a community - you have to follow the rules for everyone's best interest & safety.

Update

Ok, I was wrong lastnight. I got incorrect info. She has not as of yet gone into surgery, the surgeon is evaluating her this morning. The bullet is still in her but they believe it is in sift tissue and if that is found to be the case for sure, they may leave it there. If it is found to be near any organs or other vital parts, they will operate to remove it and repair any damage done.

The bleeding has stopped so maybe an artery was not nicked after all. They have her sedated because she is still in a good deal of pain. The Docs say she is a tough little girl. They seem optimistic about her making a full recovery.

The police went to the next door kids house lastnight but I do not know what was done or any other details about that.

Thanks for the prayers everyone. The parents really appreciate it and so do we. As always, the people on this board are the best and you all have proven it once again.

More updates to follow.

Mike, Thank you for the update. I was (and am) worried about her.

Of course, because it was a gunshot wound a full police report will have to be taken.

I hope this kid learns his lesson about gun safety for sure.

Keep the updates coming!

Thx Mike - well that eases concerns just a whisker if in fact arterial bleeding is not in the frame - but still of course our hearts are with this girl and the family.

Hoping very much for a more than satisfactory outcome.

Thanks for the update.

Wonder if there will be charges and what they'll be? How old was the kid doing the shooting?

Damm mike a candle burning for her . If you know thiese folks at all well be a good neighbor for them and try and keep up on the cheap crap for them ( mow the lawn ect .. ) while they deal with daughter . Its hell to have a kid hurt anytime , and for us its worse if a firearm is involved . Anyway , thoghts be with them , you , and all involved . Do what you can as a man first , and a gunowner second .
