My prayers and thoughts are with not only the little girl and her family, but with yours also. I am so sorry that it has effected your children so. It may take many talks from you to help them...sometimes this kind of tragedy is hard for kids to grasp. Let them know that they are safe and that this type of "accident" is not that common. Now for this boy and his parents. The parents are at fault for not training the child and giving him access to a firearm without supervision. This is where law enforcement needs to step in and make sure these illresponsible people don't let this happen again. Then it is time to call in the trial lawyers (I really don't like trial lawyers, but if they ever had a place...this is it). The parents of this boy need to be held civil standard of responsibility and pay for all the medical and emotional repair that this poor little girl will have...now and in the future. Children should have the right to feel safe playing in their yards. Again, my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I am glad the child is doing better, but the fact remains that the parents of the boy should be responsible. Any weapon that has a projectile is something that shouldn't be left in the hands of a child unsupervised. I don't care whether that is a BB gun or a bow and arrow....either can kill or injure. I really believe that if the little girl's parents call a "good" trial lawyer....he will meet with them in their home. It is not a good idea to let water flow under this bridge. They will have expenses. Bring in a lawyer now is the best possible suggestion I could make. Your wife's boss shouldn't have to shoulder the expense that is at the doorstep of such illresponsible and uncaring parents like that boy's.

To top it off, the regional supervisor that my wife and her boss fall under is being a jerk and expecting Ann (the girls mother and my wife's boss) to attend an all day training class Saturday knowing her daughter is at home with a projectile wound. This guy is a class A jerk and I am surprised no one has ever beat the hell out of him.
If they work for a corporation, she must go to Human Resources, raise some serious hell and request time off under the Family Leave Act. If tyhe Boss still refuses, she must lodge an official complaint and have somebody from corporate read the riot act to the guy. Also, make sure everything is recorded (paper, memos, emails, etc.) so it does not become a case of he siad - she said. Also, any attempts from the boss to retaliate must be logged and presented. Believe me, in this day and age Corporations are scared of discrimination suits and the public relations mightmare it may become.

Blessings for her and her family glad to hear she is doing better. Her boss sounds like a Delbert cartoon.

A pellet rifle is just as lethal as the rimfire or centerfire weapon. Obviously the "pellet" is lodged next to the liver causing surgeons great concern as to their course of action. If it was that deep, it certainly was powerful enough to have hit a structure that could have caused her bleed to death.

A pellet to the eye, could also penetrate into the brain causing death or placing someone into a vegetative state, not to mention losing the eye.

All of those are absolutely devastating, crippling, if not lethal.

I think the attitude of the boys parents are criminal as well as the attitude of the Police. At least up to this point and without further details.

My prayers have been offered up Mike. Good luck to your friends.

As for the police... all I have to say is.... so very often, it is "typical" behavior and attitude. Not all police or departments are that cavilier about such cases, but many are, unfortunately.

Civilly, there is a lot of liability to go around, but I am not an especially litigeous person.

Praying for a good and speedy recovery without lasting effects or complications.

Quick Update

She is resting comfortably and doing well.

She has a doctors visit later this week and I will update everyone after that if you all are interested. She seems to be doing pretty well. She's a tough little kid.

As for the kid next door, he was back out shooting his pellet rifle at birds Saturday and the police were called. They came, the kid went inside and as far as I know, nothing was really done. So, who knows what is going to happen. Her parents are talking to a lawyer now so I believe there may be some legal action taken against the family at some point in the future.

The kid and the jerk boss both need to be shot in the @ss with that air rifle...

Then you could ask them in your best Dr Phil voice, "How's that working for ya?"

Jeez.. the kid and the boss are real friggin tools...
